Sonarworks Partners with Wayne Jones Audio for SoundID Reference Integration in Studio Monitors

November 11 2021, 01:10
Sonarworks has announced that its SoundID Reference correction software will now be integrated into the highly acclaimed Jones-Scanlon Studio Monitors. The partnership with Wayne Jones Audio, an Australian manufacturer of bass guitar speaker cabinets and high-end studio monitors, allowed the first direct integration of the calibration software to run straight from the monitor's built-in DSP SHARC processors. SoundID Reference (Reference 4 software), will now be integrated into select Wayne Jones Audio monitors.

Wayne Jones Audio is based in Melbourne, Australia and the company was founded by professional bass-player Wayne Jones, sound engineer Steve Scanlon, and loudspeaker engineer Michail Barabasz from Lorantz Audio Services. Their approach to studio monitors follows the philosophy of the company's original bass guitar speakers, which is to approach the design without compromises and create improved products no matter the cost. For that approach, the company decided earlier that their studio monitors should fully integrated active designs with powerful built-in DSP power that would allow for updates, adjustments and refinements throughout the product's life.

All Jones-Scanlon studio monitors are designed and handmade in Australia. The company's latest product are the Jones-Scanlon Baby Red 2-way near-field studio monitors, where we can find a unique combination of a Faital Pro annular high-frequency driver, and a Purifi Audio PTT6.5X04 extended frequency-response woofer. The design is powered by a Class-D module and complemented with a SHARC DSP for linearization of the frequency response, phase and time alignment.

This combination was already praised for its qualities that allowed the subjective impression of much larger monitors. Now, that the Baby Red monitors are able to run Sonarworks' SoundID Reference calibration software directly (the monitors are bundled with the software package and microphone), the accuracy can be adjusted directly for any reference and any environment. The Jones-Scanlon Baby Red monitors feature XLR balanced and SPDIF digital inputs, and are equipped with a USB connector for servicing and updating the DSP features. This allows, uploading and storing room calibration profiles directly into the monitors up to 10,000 times. Presets and room calibration measurement profiles can be exported from SoundID Reference software, with the advantage that the integration will provide an always-calibrated, zero latency response.

According to Sonarworks, there’s no need to use the SoundID Reference app or DAW plugin – the calibration profile can be uploaded directly to the monitor so there is nothing in the chain to interfere with the signal. Following the previously unveiled collaboration with Merging Technologies for direct integration of SoundID Reference in the Anubis audio interface and controller, this is the second integration of Sonarworks' calibration and correction software to run natively from DSP platforms.

“Wayne Jones Audio produces some of the top studio monitors in the world and we are excited to have Jones-Scanlon Studio Monitors as our first monitor integration,” says Martins Popelis, Co-Founder of Sonarworks. “Together, we’re raising the standard for high-quality sound and accuracy in music production and listening.”

SoundID Reference is now available on the Jones-Scanlon Reds, Baby Reds and Big Reds Studio Monitors, and can be purchased directly from the Wayne Jones Audio Shop and Vintage King in the US.
