June 20 2019, 01:50
CEDIA Expo is the annual show created for the Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA), founded to advocate home technology, promoting training/certification, business, and the residential integration industry in general. Now operated by Emerald Expositions, the 2019 edition takes place September 10-14, at the Colorado Convention Center, in Denver. The show is promoting a new expansion era, towards the connected home and connected built environments.

More than 20,000 home technology professionals and 500+ exhibitors will convene at CEDIA Expo for the leading event in connected technology, held annually in the US. The return to the Denver Convention Center promises to reenergize the sector, now promoting the broader smart home concept. CEDIA Expo is also the event where the residential integration industry promotes new products, breakthrough innovations and targeted training.

The CEDIA association is the primary touch point and international trade association for over 3500 member companies who design, manufacture and install residential electronic systems and technology. The association is now entering a new age, connecting more than thirty thousand industry professionals, who manufacture and integrate products and appliances for the connected home. Since 2018, CEDIA sold the ownership of the CEDIA Expo to Emerald Expositions, a large trade show operator. Read the report on the 2018 show here.

For the 2019 edition of the CEDIA Expo, CEDIA has already confirmed an expanded educational conference lineup, with over 125 classes, 50 percent of them brand new and covering 17 different areas of expertise.

“We are introducing many more intermediate and advanced courses in our offerings, as well as continuing to offer the foundational classes intended for newer entrants to the industry,” says Tom Darling, senior vice president, education and certification, CEDIA. “More than half of the new courses we are offering fall in the advanced or intermediate level and for the first time we are offering an in-person new hire training track.”

The New Hire Training track offered onsite is designed to help home technology professionals earn the ESC, or the CEDIA Electronic Systems Certification, credential. Of the total courses at CEDIA Expo, 72% of all courses are either intermediate or advanced, 40% of all courses are business oriented, and 60% of all courses are technical. CEDIA has also expanded the number of courses and certifications that will be offered in Spanish. The ESC certification and the ESC-T (Electronic Systems Certified Technician) certification as well as six courses will be offered in Spanish.

CEDIA training will begin on Tuesday, September 10 with some of CEDIA’s most popular offerings including the the new Home Cinema Master Class on Wednesday which is being taught by three renowned experts in the field — Joel Silver, founder of the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), Anthony Grimani, President of Grimani Systems, and “the father of home theater” Theo Kalomirakis of TK Theaters and Rayva.

Other course highlights with a technical focus include "Integrating Custom Voice Control for the Whole Home," by Alex Capecelatro, "AV-over-IP Methods, Formats and System Design," by David Meyer, and "Immersive Audio: Unified 3D Speaker Layouts for Multiple Listeners," by Tom Garrett.

Also confirmed, TechBites, the exhibitor event which debuts the newest innovations within the residential technology industry at CEDIA Expo, will move to an action-packed format on Thursday, September 12 from 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM. Ten brands will be given three minutes to present, and an additional two minutes to field questions from attending media, influencers, industry pros and the event host.

For 2019, CEDIA Expo will also see the return of the Design Connection program. The platform, which made its debut at CEDIA Expo 2018, will feature multiple programs and networking opportunities, including viewing products in the Design Connection Pavilion, participating in the Design Connection Tour Series and networking at the Bourbon, Bubbly & Brownies event.

The Design Connection Pavilion will be anchored by two leading design associations, the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) and the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). The expanded Pavilion will feature design and construction brands and is dedicated to furthering technology and design partnerships.

Control4 is the title sponsor for the Design Connection tour series and the tours will kick off in their booth each day. Each tour will feature ten exhibitors. Both tours will feature a complimentary lunch for all participants as well as a ticket to “Bourbon, Bubbly & Brownies,” an invitation-only cocktail hour and networking session.

Attendees can browse the online session schedule and sort by session track, session type and day. Registration is now open for CEDIA Expo 2019.
