Sennheiser Launches ACCENTUM Wireless Headphones

September 26 2023, 11:10
The new Sennheiser ACCENTUM Wireless headphones are a smaller and much more affordable version of the flagship MOMENTUM 4 Wireless model. While the MOMENTUM 4 is characterized for its understated elegance, contrary to its name the ACCENTUM Wireless headphones are even more plain looking. This was the product that the German brand was supposed to have launched at IFA 2023 and didn't. Likely, because Sennheiser's consumer division is now owned and managed by Sonova, the Swiss audiology company that is still grappling to understand the consumer electronics space.

"ACCENTUM Wireless was developed to outperform their price tag, sharing much of the most desirable DNA of our award-winning MOMENTUM 4," says Christian Ern, Sennheiser Principal Product Manager. "Consumers are getting breathtaking Sennheiser sound without sacrificing the battery life or wireless freedom that makes them so enjoyable to use all day long."

Boasting Sennheiser acoustics and Hybrid Active Noise Canceling technology, the new ACCENTUM Wireless headphones are targeted at consumers that prioritize audio performance in a wireless headphone for daily use. The 37mm dynamic transducers (compared to the 42mm drivers in the MOMENTUM4) are tuned to provide exciting sound experiences and bass performance, while the acoustics have been optimized for broad ANC performance through a combination of passive isolation and covert microphones targeting both low and higher frequencies.

The ACCENTUM Wireless headphones are a Bluetooth 5.2 design with multipoint connectivity, supporting the aptX HD codec as well as AAC, apart from the default SBC that most Android users unfortunately will experience.

In addition to operating up to 50 hours per charge, these headphones accept a “quick charge” for up to 5 more hours of listening in just 10 minutes. The included USB-C charging cable can also transform the wireless headphones into a wired set for instances when Bluetooth is not permitted or enabled. Users can plug the USB cable into a class-compliant device to use ACCENTUM as an audio interface for content consumption and voice communication.

Although the MOMENTUM4 Wireless have been plagued by firmware problems that particularly affect communications, the new ACCENTUM Wireless headphones are also strongly oriented towards voice calls, and are equipped with two built-in microphones and a dedicated wind-reduction mode. Adjustable side-tone with advanced signal processing keeps conversations feeling natural and fatigue-free while minimizing background distractions. And multipoint seamlessly switches the active wireless connection from one Bluetooth device to another without the need for re-pairing the devices — a boon for people frequently jumping into VoIP calls on a smartphone but streaming music from their laptop between meetings, for example.
The headphones also feature a simplified 4-button layout and optional companion smartphone app. User can manage Bluetooth connections and features inthe Smart Control App, which also enhances the headphone experience with a 5-band EQ. Smart Control can store user presets and deliver updates, too.

"The sleek and understated look of ACCENTUM Wireless is more than an extension of the latest generation MOMENTUM family," says Ern. "They are arguably our most comfortable all-purpose wireless headphones yet with their balanced feel and luxurious padding. Your ears can stay in the sweet spot for hours."

The extended listening time from ACCENTUM’s battery is equally matched by its long-term wearing comfort. The earcup and headband padding contact points effortlessly conform to the wearer's shape, with a gentle touch that always feels secure and natural. The headphones identity echoes the compact fold-flat design of the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless, giving the headphone lineup a cohesive look that is serious about both sound and ergonomics.

The new ACCENTUM Wireless headphones will be available in black and in white with sandstone accents, and will have an MSRP of $179.95 USD, which significantly more affordable than the MOMENTUM4 Wireless. The black model will start shipping October 4, 2023, while the white version begins shipping in late November.
