German microphone brand Schoeps launched its best-selling modular microphone series Colette in a matched set, packed in a handy and robust Peli Case. The company called it the Desert Island Stereo Set, and inside the Peli case we can find two CMC 1 U microphone amplifiers (Ref No. 132011) and two MK, axially aligned microphone capsules (No. 1310xxm), as a matched pair. The set includes a certificate of matching for the capsules and doesn't forget two SG 20 stand clamps.
"Real audio enthusiasts ask themselves which microphones they would take to a desert island. This hypothetical question may seem absurd, but it implies considerations that every professional microphone user deals with: Which microphone would I choose in a situation where resources are limited and priorities must be set? Important questions could be: How versatile is the microphone? How big and heavy is it if I am on the road a lot?" Schoeps has answered these questions in its typically uncompromising way with the "Desert Island Stereo Set".
The set consists of two CMC 1 U amplifiers with two versatile Colette MK capsules. The Colette series microphones have been in production for 50 years, have been constantly expanded and modernized, and are used in every application imaginable. The pair of microphones travels in the smallest Pelican (Peli) case available. Such flexible microphones in a convenient form factor are unique and a real eye-catcher.
There are sets including the MK 2, MK 21, MK 21H, MK 22, MK 2H, MK 2S, MK 2XS, MK 4, MK 41, or MK 5 capsules. Schoeps offers 20 different microphone capsules in the Colette series, including omnidirectional, wide cardioid, "open cardioid", supercardioid and figure-of-eight types, including several capsule types for close pickup of speech.
Let’s only hope that users don't forget to bring a recording device or mixer with phantom power with them to the desert island.
The Schoeps Desert Island Stereo Set is available for EUR €2.786 or USD $3,440 plus taxes.
