The increasing focus on home use is (finally!) inspiring audio manufacturers to transition to more advanced USB-C designs. PreSonus is now shipping the new Revelator io24 USB-C audio interface, which integrates high-headroom mic preamps, a two-channel loopback mixer, and extensive processing to deliver polished, professional-sounding results for streaming, podcasting, and music production.

Flexible and versatile, the new PreSonus Revelator io24 is an audio interface designed for both recording and streaming. Its easy-to-use mixer lets users quickly record Zoom calls or Skype interviews and add backing tracks and sound effects for podcasts, live stream performances, music production, and more.

Among its many innovative features, users are able to engage Stream Mix mode at the click of a button, configuring all analog inputs, loopback channels, reverb, and effects to be routed to the USB output. From there, the mix can easily be sent to any streaming software. This mode turns the Revelator io24 audio interface into a complete compact streaming mixer.

Two analog mic/instrument/line inputs with PreSonus' professional-grade XMAX-L microphone preamps, which can be stereo linked, make Revelator io24 a high-quality production front-end. The interface also features two balanced 1/4-inch line outputs, a high-powered headphone output, professional metering, and zero-latency monitoring. It allows recording 24-bit/96kHz audio to any recording and production software, and PreSonus obviously bundles its own Studio One Artist with the interface.

One of the great features of the Revelator io24 design is the simple-to-use loopback mixer, which allows adding backing tracks to live stream performances, or conference in a Zoom caller to a podcast. With two dedicated stereo channels for loopback audio on macOS or Windows, users can simultaneously mix and record the audio from two different applications, along with the two analog input channels.

Every input channel can be processed using PreSonus’ Fat Channel DSP, which provides a high-pass filter, 4-band parametric EQ, compressor, gate, and limiter, providing all the essentials for any audio source. But further creativity is available by applying the detuner, vocoder, ring modulator, filters, and delay to create crazy effects. A dedicated reverb bus even allows users to add just the right amount of ambience.

And users can also remote-control the whole mixing, processing, and routing using PreSonus’ Universal Control software for macOS, Windows, iPad, and Android tablets. The Revelator io24 interface stores two presets per channel locally, and eight more factory presets can be loaded from Universal Control for fast processing.

But the Fat Channel processing also is fully editable, so more experienced users can dig in and create their own presets. Presets are available for each processor so users can quickly make customized channel settings. This is available by activating the Advanced mode, which exposes a fully editable Fat Channel, compressor and EQ models, and modeled vintage processors.

The Revelator io24 audio interface comes with a wealth of software, including Studio One Artist and the Studio Magic Suite, which includes Ableton Live Lite, and an impressive collection of virtual instruments and effects plug-ins. The new USB-C audio interface is now available for $199.95 US.
