May 18 2016, 04:10
Oscium announced the WiPry 5x, a dual-band spectrum analyzer solution that visualizes all spectral activity on both 2.4 and 5 GHz on both iOS and Android devices. Oscium’s WiPry 5x is an hardware plug-in accessory that makes possible to identify and avoid interferences and optimize wireless connectivity, directly from a smartphone or tablet. A portable tool perfect for field techs, wireless professionals, and home audio enthusiasts setting up wireless audio networks.

Oscium is a manufacturer of innovative test equipment accessories that connect to a smartphone or tablet transforming the host device into a portable troubleshooting tool for field technicians. Hardware accessories can be purchased directly from Oscium and free software apps are downloaded on either Google Play or in the Apple App Store.

Oscium currently offers the LogiScope (logic analyzer), iMSO-204L and iMSO-104 (mixed signal oscilloscopes), WiPry-Pro Combo (combination spectrum analyzer & dynamic power meter), WiPry-Pro (2.4 GHz spectrum analyzer) and now the new WiPry 5x Dual Band Spectrum Analyzer (2.4 & 5 GHz) with cross platform support. By adding coverage to the Android market and supporting 5 GHz, Oscium has expanded their customer base and made some significant improvements in direct response to market’s demands.

The 2.4 GHz band is a busy place today, and, in the future, 5 GHz will have increasing challenges. That’s why Oscium’s WiPry 5x supports both bands. Wireless internet and many electronic devices such as baby monitors, cordless phones, and garage door openers (as well as microwave ovens…) all share the same spectrum. Since Wi-Fi can extend the length of a football field on 2.4 GHz, devices in nearby buildings or residences can also cause interference. With WiPry 5x, users can pinpoint the source of noise and get the most out of any wireless network regardless of the complexity of the environment.

WiPry 5x visualizes all wireless activity on both 2.4 & 5 GHz. Measurement settings include 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11ac and 802.15.4 (ZigBee). SSID-specific activity is also available, ideal to troubleshoot home security, home automation and home audio wireless installations. WiPry 5x features include the ability to grade channels, calculate signal to noise ratio (perfect for knowing whether VoIP or audio streaming is possible), and view the environment over time using waterfall mode. It’s also possible to data log and export data in a csv file for post processing.

As Bryan Lee, President of Oscium, explains, “We have listened to the professionals in the field and are excited about this release”. This portable and easy to use 2.4 and 5 GHz dual band spectrum analyzer (RSSI & SSID’s) allows discovery of SSID's from nearby access points in combination with Oscium’s WiPry 5x accessory connected to the host device, creating a perfectly portable troubleshooting tool for all things wireless.

The WiPry 5x hardware accessory can be ordered for $499.97. WiPry software is free both in the Apple App Store and on Google Play. Although initial support will only include iOS version 7.0 or higher and Android version 4.0.3 and higher, the hardware is capable of supporting other platforms such as Windows, Mac and Linux. Compatible devices include Apple’s iPod touch (5th generation9, iPhone 5 to 6S Plus models and all iPads from third generation forward, including the iPad Pro. All Android devices with USB On-The-Go (USB OTG or just OTG) are compatible.
