New High-End Loudspeaker Brand Alare Introduces Remiga 2 Loudspeakers

After 25 years of designing, crafting and manufacturing high-end audio components, the founders of Audia Flight in Italy couldn't resist the temptation to design their own speakers. Following an original design created for testing their own audio amplifier circuits, which after ten years remains in use in their lab, the company decided it was time to create a new high end loudspeaker brand, Alare. And the company introduced Remiga 2, their first product now available.

"Elegantly crafted in Italy and built with finest materials and components, Alare loudspeakers are carefully designed with the purpose of achieving the best performances ever. Designing an high-end loudspeaker is a mechanical, electrical, and acoustic challenge. If the goal is to maintain untouched harmonic structures and instrumental timbres, Alare products keep this promise to satisfy expectations of most discerning music lovers," states the official product announcement.

Audia Flight was founded in 1996 by Massimiliano Marzi and Andrea Nardini, and the company has since then designed and manufactured all amplification products at its own facility, located in the town of Civitavecchia, just over 70 kilometers from Rome. Alare is now a brand and registered trademark owned by Audia Snc, and the Remiga 2 floor-standing loudspeaker system is their first model on the market.

The design uses a carefully shaped transmission line, driven by two custom woofers: one 10" and one 8". This choice, the creators found through extensive computer simulation and testing, allows greater control of the energy, resulting in a deeper and more detailed sound. Transmission line designs are also more complex to develop and fine-tune, and Alare's tapered transmission line with two drivers is the result of complex modeling and calculations.

The two woofers use the sandwich cone formula from Danish company Audiotechnology, featuring two thin-carbon reinforced paper cones, which are glued together with an expanding foam layer, well damped to avoid resonances. The result is an extremely rigid cone, presenting a fast, lower-distortion response, driven by an aluminum wire voice coil with a Kapton former. The whole driver design is generously ventilated, allowing free motion, without unwanted compression effects.

For the top section of the Alare Remiga 2 design, we find an Accuton Cell 7" midrange unit, using a pure ceramic membrane, extremely light and rigid, contributing to lower distortion and a cleaner sound over an expanded range of frequencies. This driver is mounted in its own dedicated chamber, filled with a special aramid fiber wool for nearly perfect sound absorption. The midrange paves the way for the role of the exceptional 30mm diamond tweeter, also from Accuton. Together, this choice of drivers and cabinet construction allows for a frequency response lowering to 32Hz and extending all the way to 30kHz.

"A thin dome of diamond is ideal for a tweeter because of the stiffness to weight ratio of this material, which is really unsurpassed. A concave dome is used because the moving assembly is more rigid and better damped than convex domes, and it also shows a better dispersion," the company explains. The chosen tweeter design, they state, doesn't sound overly “brilliant” as many diamond tweeters often do, and instead becomes a natural extension of the whole system design. "The diamonds simply disappear, only music remains. This is a new way of relaxed listening and once you get used to it, you will never go back to other more conventional technologies," they add.

Special attention was given also to the crossover board design. Expanding on the company's extended experience in high-end electronics, selected high quality components, mostly from Mundorf, are firmly mounted on a non-conductive board, connected through silver plated, solid core copper wire, avoiding unwanted interferences among electrical paths.
The Alare Remiga 2 cabinet construction uses different woods, layered using a special glue formula that results in a very efficient “constrained layer” damping effect. Crucial, given the large dimensions of 140 x 35 x 71cm and overall weight (120Kg). This cabinet construction technique is further reinforced with an internal steel cage, virtually eliminating any unwanted vibrations.

The pair of Remiga 2 speakers are sold for 69,000 Euros (approx. $80,000 USD). The company is planning to introduce a smaller version, the Remiga 1, which will be a more compact three-way, floor-standing speaker. The company is also investing in the best tools to support its speaker design and manufacturing efforts, using state-of-the-art measurement systems and precision microphones, displacement lasers, accelerometers, computer aided design and simulation software. Each product is carefully tested, and controlled before shipping, using total quality control for every step of manufacturing.

"What defines and makes us who we are is our passion, creativity, ingenuity and a sense of belonging to our country, Italy," the company states.
