New beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO Reference Class Headphones

July 28 2016, 04:00
beyerdynamic is anticipating it’s newest professional headphone, the DT 1990 PRO, to be launched officially during the IFA 2016 show, in Berlin. The newest chapter in the acclaimed DT PRO studio series (DT 770 PRO, DT 880 PRO, DT 990 PRO, and DT 1770 PRO), the DT 1990 PRO is said to deliver absolute precision with reproducible results, whether in the studio or for personal use. Once again, this new beyerdynamic open back model uses new-generation Tesla transducers, creating a reference system for both studio work and audio enthusiasts.

The new DT 1990 PRO design is based on beyerdynamic’s exclusive Tesla technology, creating high levels of efficiency with distortion-free sound reproduction across all signal levels. The highly-responsive Tesla transducers utilize extremely fine copper wires (half as thick as a human hair), which are also used in the successful DT 1770 PRO. In the case of the DT 1770 PRO, however, the transducers are integrated in a closed system, making the headphones suitable for loud environments.

The DT 1990 PRO is designed for use in a soundproof studio setting. According to the German company, its circumaural open back design “extracts the utmost detail from the audio signal, while the construction of exclusive components and titanium-coated acoustic fabric makes every knob movement on the mixing desk audible. Subtle variations can be picked up like an acoustic magnifying glass.”

Promising to be an excellent tool for the studio, the DT 1990 PRO was also designed with music appreciation in mind, beyerdynamic says its “precise and spatial reproduction make the DT 1990 PRO the ideal headphones for music producers, sound engineers, and hi-fi enthusiasts alike. High-tech materials ensure optimal wearing comfort. The memory foam-filled ear pads offer the perfect, virtually unrivaled fit- enabling prolonged listening sessions without feeling excessive pressure or heat on the ears. The sound can also be tuned thanks to replaceable ear pads, as two variants are supplied with the headphones. One favors neutral, analytical sound, while the other tends towards a warmer tuning with more bass.”

Specifications for the DT 1990 PRO detail an extended frequency response up to 40,000 Hz, 250 ohm nominal impedance and 200 mW nominal power handling capacity. Its low weight of only 370 g (without cable) and low headband pressure is also worth noting (lower than the DT 1770 PRO), since it will allow for longer working/listening sessions.

The DT 1990 PRO includes two detachable cables with mini-XLR connectors, allowing users to choose between a straight or coiled cable to suit their needs. The headphones can also be protected from impact during everyday studio use by a high-quality transport case. The robust construction and extensive supply of complimentary parts play their roll in ensuring that the DT 1990 PRO is a long-term investment.

The new top model in the beyerdynamic pro series will be showcased at IFA in Berlin from September 2-7, 2016. The DT 1990 PRO will be available worldwide in September for $599 MSRP.
