MSE Audio Releases SolidDrive Surface-Mount Actuators with 70V Transformers for Sound Masking and Background Music

March 3 2021, 00:45
MSE Audio announced three new models of SolidDrive surface-mount actuators with transformers. These actuators convert audio signals into vibrations that transfer into solid surfaces through direct contact and work well for sound masking and background music applications. Available in drywall (SD1-T), wood (SD1-sm-T), and glass (SD1G-T) versions, each piece is designed for one channel of audio. All models are now shipping globally.

SolidDrive uses patent-pending dual-voice coil technology in an aluminum enclosure to transfer acoustic energy to virtually any substrate. Using high-powered neodymium magnets and dual symmetrically opposed motors, SolidDrive converts audio signals into vibrations that transfer into any solid surface through direct contact. The result is sound that radiates from the entire surface with a full frequency response of 70Hz to 15kHz. The symmetrically opposed neodymium magnets and specifically engineered mounting hardware provide hidden planar-source acoustics and uniformity throughout the listening space.

"With the new transformer versions of SolidDrive, we've added another deployment option for our integrators. This makes installation of the SolidDrive actuator easier," says Michael Sipe, Vice President Sales. "We’re seeing a lot of use in government, medical, retail, and office buildings. Integrators are using these with noise generators for sound masking applications in homes and offices, and for background music in both residential and commercial applications. The SD1 line fulfills our mission to manufacture high quality products that are installation friendly. We offer direct access to our engineers for design and layout help and award-winning customer service."

Optional accessories are available to support various installation needs including a Titanium Heat Sink (SD1-HS-TI), recommended for hot weather locations and in applications when SolidDrive is attached to a small surface area, and 12" (SD1-BR12), 16" (SD1-BR16) and 24" (SD1-BR24) On-Center Bracket Assemblies. These assemblies have a patented balanced cantilever spring brackets and are required for installations of the SD1 behind drywall. The mounting bracket eliminates stress on the glue bond by balancing the SD1 to eliminate torque and by holding it against the drywall with proper amount of pressure.

Also available are Passive Equalization Modules for drywall (PEM-DW), wood (PEM-W) and glass (PEM-G), designed to smooth out the frequency response and optimize the sound of the SD1, SD1g, and SD1sm for any type of surface to which they will be attached. One module is needed for each SolidDrive unit.

The SD-1 Desktop Kit-250 is the ideal way to see how the SolidDrive works on any surface including but not limited to glass, metal, wood, ceramics, laminates, and composites. The SolidDrive unit in the kit has a special silicone backing so it will work with virtually any surface without scratching or leaving a mark. The kit includes one SD1 desktop unit, DC power adapter, cables, and SD-250 250-watt mini amp with SolidDrive EQ curves in a convenient carrying case.
