KEF Announces New Additions to Subwoofer Lineup: KC92 and KUBE MIE

February 20 2024, 08:00
Leveraging its recent innovations in transducer engineering since the launch of the extremely successful KC62 powered subwoofer with force-canceling and Uni-Core technologies, KEF is now taking its bass to a whole new level with the new KC92 Force-Cancelling Subwoofer and four new models in the Kube MIE Subwoofer Series - the Kube 8 MIE, Kube 10 MIE, Kube 12 MIE, and Kube 15 MIE. A wide range of subwoofer options to ensure the most visceral experiences in modern home audio.

Through innovative technology and design, this complete line of KEF subwoofers is able to deliver deep and detailed bass with accuracy. These subwoofers are KEF's newest addition to its existing, comprehensive subwoofer range that includes the KC62, T2, Reference 8b, and a vast collection of THX Certified In-Wall Subwoofers.

Both the new KC92 subwoofer and the new Kube MIE Series with four models feature KEF's proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithm, the Music Integrity Engine (MIE), one of the brand’s core innovations. Tailored for each model, the unique MIE algorithm ensures every component works within the individual subwoofer in perfect harmony. Elevating the overall performance powered by MIE, the iBX Intelligent Bass Extension processing creates an extended depth that unlocks the full potential of the custom driver. By analyzing the input signal, iBX allows the subwoofer to play louder and remain dynamic at any listening level.

KC92 Force-Cancelling Subwoofer
Surpassing expectations for its size, the the KC92 subwoofer achieves powerful, quick articulation through a dual driver in a force-cancelling configuration. Creating an ultra-dynamic listening experience for both music and movies, the KC92's innovative design, incorporates the patent-pending P-Flex Surround (which was inspired by the Japanese art of origami) to resist sonic pressure without sacrificing sensitivity. Similar to origami folds, the pleated construction defies internal air pressure, enabling the driver to move precisely in response to the aural signal. Deeper bass extension and more precise, detailed bass reproduction are the outcomes, and regardless of volume, its design achieves linearity and vanishingly low distortion, guaranteeing to reveal every detail.

With fluidity and scale, the two 9-inch drivers in the KC92 achieve depths of 11Hz thanks to optimized excursion characteristics. The shallow, concave aluminum skin sits above a paper cone in the drivers' hybrid structure, which also includes a vented voice coil and an enlarged motor system. The back-to-back force-cancelling layout of the KC92's two drivers ensures reactive forces are eliminated, which reduces cabinet vibration and maximizes precision and detail.

In a subwoofer, power goes beyond mere volume. The KC92 possesses immense power that fills almost any domestic space, with its 1000W of Class-D amplification (a dedicated 500W amplifier for each driver), and seamlessly adjusts to a diverse range of audio systems, offering a broad spectrum of
connection options. With both line level and speaker level inputs, it can easily connect to any amplifier. KEF's SmartConnect automatically optimizes gain based on whether a mono or stereo input is in use, ensuring optimal performance.

The line output with High Pass Filter (HPF) allows for exceptional fine-tuned integration. The five-room placement options allow the KC92 to effortlessly integrate into any environment. Whether it’s placed in a free space, next to the wall, in a corner, snug within a cabinet, or using the dedicated apartment mode its performance will be consistent. The minimal and timeless design of the KC92 is easy to match with a variety of speakers, being available in White Gloss and Black Gloss.

Kube MIE Subwoofers
With the new Kube MIE Series, KEF intends to expand the options for compact music systems or the cinematic embrace of home theater, offering a range of powerful subwoofers, available in four driver sizes (15", 12", 10", and 8").

The deceptively diminutive Kube 8 MIE or the behemoth Kube 15 MIE, expand the options to any room size and system requirements, while the multiple connectivity options and room EQ settings make installation and setup a breeze. Each Kube MIE Series model has a long throw driver that fires from the front. This method produces an impression of direct force within the space, resulting in a tactile, compressed, and potent bass experience that accurately reproduces the lowest octaves in music and movies with high SPL.
Optimally designed for the driver and the available acoustic volume, the Class D RMS amplifier in the Kube runs efficiently and cool, providing ample power for the subwoofer. The sealed cabinet design of Kube series  facilitates simpler positioning. And Kube subwoofers complement any room interior style with four sizes available and black gloss finish.

The four Kube subwoofers all have a placement-dependent EQ component that is simply adjustable to maximize in-room performance thanks to the same Music Integrity Engine algorithm. And the subwoofers effortlessly adapt to a wide range of audio systems due to its extensive range of connection choices. The line level and speaker level inputs mean it can be connected to any amplifier. KEF SmartConnect automatically optimizes the gain for best performance by sensing whether a mono or stereo input is being used. Furthermore, Kube can be easily integrated wirelessly using the optional KW1 wireless subwoofer adapter.

The KEF KC92 Force-cancelling Subwoofer and Kube Subwoofers are available for myKEF members to purchase ahead of the official launch on February 27th. The KC92 will retail for $1,999.99 and the Kube MIE Series Subwoofers are priced as follows: Kube 15 MIE $1399.99; Kube 12 MIE $999.99; Kube 10 MIE $799.99, Kube 8 MIE $599.99.
