HEAD acoustics will promote a new online presentation titled "Optimizing Listening Effort in Vehicles." This new free online seminar - October 13, 2020 - will address HEAD acoustics's vast research in both communications and automotive audio, detailing how to explore the company's listening effort evaluation tool called ABLE (Assessment of Binaural Listening Effort). This implementation allows researchers to evaluate listening efforts inside vehicles, including for telecommunication applications.
Automotive telecommunication applications typically involve lots of background noise. For all in-vehicle communications, the signals meant to be heard and interpreted, designers have turned to hardware and software solutions for improving the quality and intelligibility of the presented audio signal. Multiple loudspeakers, beamforming techniques, audio zones (AZ), bandwidth extension (BWE) and in-car communication (ICC) are some of the technologies permeating into vehicles today.
Qualification and optimization of these technologies is essential for the market success and a good user experience. However, it has been a challenge to find appropriate metrics for evaluating the efficacy of said solutions.
In this upcoming seminar, HEAD acoustics will introduce attendees to optimizing listening effort in vehicles. Based on the lessons learned about applying a new standardized method evaluating listening effort (ETSI TS 103 558) to headphones and mobile phones (topics addressed in previous online seminars), the host will present HEAD acoustics' implementation called ABLE (Assessment of Binaural Listening Effort). The seminar will look at the feasibility of listening effort for automotive applications and will include practical test results of real devices. At the end of the presentations, attendees will have a chance to ask questions directly to HEAD acoustics' experts.
