Since its foundation, professional audio monitoring has been the core of Genelec's business, and established the loudspeaker company from Finland as the industry pioneer in active monitors. Over forty years later, Genelec products now extending to installation and residential applications, remain true to the original philosophy, offering reliability, neutral sound reproduction regardless of size, as well as the ability to adapt frequency response to the listening environment.
And Genelec also remains committed to manufacture long lasting products that are easy to service and to guarantee spare parts availability for many years (minimum 5 years) after the product’s discontinuation. The company works with select partners close to its facilities in order not to waste energy in transportation and stocking, and to keep the total ecological footprint of its products as small as possible.
Since the year 2000, Genelec implemented steps to further improve its processes and ensure sustainable development in all its activities, including using exclusively sustainable sources of solar, wind and hydroelectric energy to power its recently renewed factory and logistical facilities, close to the Porovesi Lake in Iisalmi, Finland. And as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and supporting the circular economy, Genelec now decided to announce the availability of Genelec Certified Pre-Owned loudspeakers, coming in 2022.
Having been tested and approved by the company's own service experts, and supported by a 2 year parts-and-labour warranty, Genelec Certified Pre-Owned loudspeakers are available to purchase via a small network of authorized Genelec dealers, who will then be able to provide the highest levels of customer service, backed by Genelec's own support team should it be required.
The limited stock of Genelec Certified Pre-Owned loudspeakers will bring the same exceptional audio quality and trustworthiness that first-time owners have come to expect from every Genelec product. The selection of models comprises everything from current models to the occasional vintage gem, each of them delivering the same level of performance as when they were new.

Auction for a Sustainability
To kick off the Genelec Certified Pre-Owned initiative, Genelec decided to auction a pair of beautiful S30B three-way monitors, with all proceeds going to support sustainable development projects. Launched in 1978, the S30 was Genelec's very first studio monitor.
In the spring of 1976, Juhani Borenius, an acoustician for Finnish broadcaster YLE, asked young student engineers Ilpo Martikainen and Topi Partanen (pictured above) whether they could design and build an active monitoring loudspeaker that could deliver consistent performance, total reliability, easy serviceability, and the ability to adapt to the acoustic environment that it was placed in. Ilpo and Topi accepted Juhani’s challenge, created the now legendary three-way S30 model - and with that Genelec was born.
These genuine Genelec classic S30Bs represent the second generation of S30s, delivering a smooth and neutral frequency response between 42Hz and 25kHz and are able to deliver a maximum SPL of 125dB with program material. The pair that Genelec is auctioning (pictured below) are from the early 1990s, and are in very good condition. They have been fully serviced by the factory team, and come with a 2 year parts-and-labour warranty. The auction will run until December 19, 2021, and will be hosted on eBay.
