Exeger and E-Peas Partner to Create Energy Harvesting Solutions for Connected Devices

Exeger, the Swedish company behind the revolutionary solar cell technology Powerfoyle, announced a partnership with Belgium-based Ultra Low Power Management semiconductor company e-peas. Experts in ultra-low power, high efficiency Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs) for energy harvesting, e-peas' Ambient Energy Manager (AEM) products portfolio, combined with the complete Energy Harvesting ecosystem provide clear benefits to many industry segments such as consumer electronics.
 

e-peas develops and markets ultra-low power semiconductor technology, enabling wireless product designers to substantially extend battery lifespans and eliminate the heavy call-out costs of replacing batteries, without in any way compromising on reliability. Relying on 15 years of research and patented intellectual property, the company’s products increase the amount of harvested energy and drastically reduce the energy consumption of all power consuming blocks within wireless sensor nodes. Headquartered in Mont-Saint-Guibert, Belgium, with additional offices in Switzerland and the USA, e-peas offers a portfolio of energy harvesting power management interface ICs, microcontrollers, and sensor solutions.

Exeger’s photovoltaic cells harvest all forms of light and convert it into electrical energy. Powerfoyle can be produced in any shape, size, and form factor to be seamlessly integrated into any electronic device. Both Exeger and e-peas companies are now offering a compact energy harvesting boost converter module optimized for Powerfoyle-powered products, initially focusing on ultra-low power indoor applications. The collaboration aims to simplify the adoption of Powerfoyle for manufacturers and developers and, as a result, eliminates the need for disposable batteries and the associated high costs of battery replacement.

The innovative solution is a mini-stamp form factor evaluation kit, providing out-of-the-box best performances of the combined Powerfoyle + Ambient Energy Manager (PMIC). Developers also have the possibility to further tune the system thanks to I2C interface. It implements an Average Power Monitoring system (APM) allowing the application circuit to get a measure of harvested energy. An optional thermal management sensing is also made available.
