A partnership between Cadence and Dassault Systèmes intends to leverage the Cadence Allegro platform and the 3DExperience SolidWorks CAD software platform to optimize electromechanical systems modeling, design, simulation and product lifecycle management. The two companies are determined to accelerate innovation and time-to-product realization by improving modeling, simulation, virtual twin experiences, collaboration, manufacturing and supply chain execution.
Products and services are increasingly interconnected. Companies must rapidly develop electronic systems that are safe, high quality and right the first time. Mastering electronic system complexity and cost/time-to-market pressures requires collaborative innovation that unites electronics, mechanics and additional functions across the value chain.
Cadence Design Systems and Dassault Systèmes, the French company that currently holds the SolidWorks and CATIA CAD/CAM software packages, among many others, announced a strategic partnership to provide companies in multiple vertical markets with integrated, next-generation solutions for the development of high performance electronic systems.
The two companies have combined Dassault Systèmes’ 3DExperience SolidWorks platform, the latest attempt by Dassault to integrate its CAD/CAM software packages on a web and cloud collaboration environment. While in the past the company's software was able to run on cutting-edge Unix and Linux workstations and super computers, in the past 20 years, Dassault has remained highly constrained by running its most popular software tools on Windows PCs which need to be maxed out to the craziest (and most expensive) levels to handle any decent real-world project. By introducing cloud support, users of 3DExperience SolidWorks software can manage the software running even on older Windows machines, by transferring complex calculations, while allowing multiple users to collaborate on the same project.
In a multi-year collaboration with the Cadence and its Cadence Allegro PCB Design platform (pictured above), Dassault expects to offer a joint solution for multidiscipline modeling, simulation and optimization of complex, connected electronic systems. With this new solution, developers can now accelerate their end-to-end system development process while optimizing their design for performance, reliability, manufacturability, supply resilience, compliance and cost.
The collaborative virtual twin experiences integrate capabilities for electronic and mechanical product lifecycle management, electronic systems development, engineering and traceability, providing a real-time view of electrical and mechanical simulation, manufacturing and supply chain execution for the product lifecycle.
"Every industry is overwhelmed with product complexity due to electrification, security, connectivity, sustainability, AI/ML, cloud, supply chain/regulatory challenges and more," says Tom Beckley, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Custom IC & PCB Group at Cadence. "Cadence is the global leader for the design and analysis of complex IP, semiconductors, advanced IC packaging, PCBs and electrical systems. Combined with Dassault Systèmes’ powerful 3DExperience platform, customers now have an opportunity to literally transform their enterprise inclusive of electronics, mechanical, manufacturing and product lifecycle management. We are excited about our strategic partnership with Dassault Systèmes, which enables electromechanical ‘virtual twin experiences’ for rapid product realization."
"Connected electronic systems are raising the standards in all industries in the Experience Economy, where the value of a product comes from its usage. Companies must shift from ‘product thinking’ to ‘experience thinking’ in their development processes to deliver the experiences consumers want and to succeed in this economy," says Philippe Laufer, Executive Vice President Global Brands, Dassault Systèmes. "Our strategic partnership with Cadence will revolutionize the development of high performance electronic systems by enabling collaboration around virtual twin experiences."
Dassault Systèmes recently launched the latest 3DExperience SolidWorks for Makers and 3DExperience SolidWorks for Students, providing developers and students with cloud-based access to these popular software tools for design, engineering and collaboration. These SolidWorks applications avoid the problems of users who normally struggle to manage large projects on Windows PCs, and are unable to run the software on the latest Mac computers, even with virtualization - leading to an ecosystem of hacked software and all sorts of translation/conversion tools for software that is currently able to run on Mac OS and leverage the most powerful graphics on affordable computers.
