Audio-Technica Now Shipping Updated Boundary Microphones and Conferencing Systems

August 14 2019, 00:10
Audio-Technica confirmed it is now shipping new products for the conferencing market. Renewing its existing series, the new UniPoint Boundary Microphones now add touch-sensitive switches and two-state RGB LED status indicators, among other new features. Multiple variations of the ES925 gooseneck microphone are also now available, with three different polar patterns, four different power module options and six gooseneck lengths. Finally, Audio-Technica is now shipping the new ATUC-IR Hybrid Infrared Discussion System.
Audio-Technica is now shipping its updated UniPoint U891 Boundary Microphone models featuring a two-state RGB LED status indicator and a touch-sensitive capacitive-type user switch that can be set to three modes, replacing the previously available models. All new U891 models are equipped with an 80 Hz low-cut UniSteep filter to reduce pickup of low-frequency ambient noise, UniGuard innovations that offer unsurpassed immunity from radio frequency interference and a unique PivotPoint rotating connector that changes the cable exit point without the need for tools.

Designed to deliver easy, flexible control in conference and boardroom installations, all versatile U891 condenser boundary microphone models feature a heavy die-cast case and silicon foam bottom pads to minimize coupling of surface vibration to the microphone. Threaded inserts on the bottom of the microphone allow it to be mounted with screws for increased security. The unit’s self-contained electronics eliminate the need for an external power module. All models accept available interchangeable elements that permit angle of acceptance from 100-degree to 360-degree.

The U891RCb (upgrading the previous model, U891RCx) features a wide-range condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern and offers an external contact closure switch that allows users to control a remote device — a camera, for instance — from a switch on the microphone. Locally, the microphone’s activation switch can be set to three operating modes: touch-on/touch-off, press-to-talk, and press-to-mute.

The U891Rb (upgrading the previous model, U891Rx) is a cardioid condenser boundary microphone with a local activation switch that can be set to three operating modes. The model is available in black (U891Rb) and white (U891RWb).

The all-new U891RbO is ancomnidirectional condenser boundary microphone with a three-mode switch. The U891RbO is designed for surface-mount applications such as high-quality sound reinforcement, professional recording, television, conferencing and other demanding sound pickup situations.

New ES925 Modular Gooseneck Microphone Systems
Audio-Technica is also now shipping its new Engineered Sound line of modular microphone systems with several dozen variations of the ES925 gooseneck microphone. All ES925 modular microphone components are interchangeable with each other, allowing users to configure each microphone system from a choice of three different polar patterns (“C,”/cardioid “H”/hypercardioid and “ML”/MicroLine designations); four power module options (“DS5,” “FM3,” “FM5” and “XLR” designations) and six different gooseneck lengths — a total of 72 new offerings.

Each new ES modular microphone system includes a microphone element, gooseneck and a power module. Compatible low-profile microphone elements are offered in one of three polar patterns: cardioid, hypercardioid and MicroLine, respectively offering 120-degree, 100-degree and 90-degree acceptance angles (an omnidirectional element is available separately). The interchangeable condenser microphone elements provide full-range, natural sound.

The desk stand, flush-mount power modules, and all mic element housings feature highly visible, two-state RGB LED status indicators. The 5-pin desk stand is also equipped with a touch-sensitive capacitive-type user switch with local and remote switching options and a UniSteep filter that provides steep low-frequency attenuation to improve sound pickup without affecting vocal reproduction quality. The 3-pin and 5-pin flush-mount power module options mount unobtrusively in tabletops and come with isolators that provide mechanical dampening of the mounting surface. Both versions are equipped with a capacitive touch switch to enable local muting of the microphone. The 3-pin XLR power module version plugs into any standard XLRF-type connector or mounts to 5/8"-27 stands using the included quick-mount stand adapter. The XLR version allows LED control when used with ATUC series products and the AT8699R desk stand. All four power module versions include UniGuard® RFI-shielding technology.

New ATUC-IR Hybrid Infrared Discussion System
Audio-Technica also confirmed it has expanded the company’s conferencing/discussion solutions with the ATUC-IR Hybrid Infrared Discussion System (now shipping). Offering easy plug-and-play operation, the new discussion system provides reliable, clear and intelligible communication to significantly increase meeting efficiency and effectiveness. The hybrid design allows hundreds of infrared and wired discussion units to be combined into a single system.

The ATUC-IR Hybrid Infrared Discussion System provides 24-bit/48 kHz uncompressed digital audio for natural-sounding voice reproduction, along with a 12-band feedback suppressor that enables higher volume levels. IR transmission requires no frequency coordination and keeps signals safe and secure, with no information leakage.

A single system may be scaled to support a total of 200 ATUC-IRDU infrared discussion units together with 100 ATUC-50 wired discussion/integration/interpretation (DU/IU/INT) units from a single ATUC-IRCU control unit. Further, up to two existing ATUC-50CU wired control units may be linked to the new ATUC-IR hybrid infrared system to integrate an additional 100 DU/IU/INT units each, for a grand total of 500 DU/IU/INT units.

Audio-Technica ATUC-IRCUDAN Control Unit with Dante output.

The 19" rack-mountable ATUC-IRCU control unit can be operated locally, through Web Remote interface (no software required), or third-party IP control systems. It offers three selectable conference modes (free talk, request-to-talk, and full remote) with various override settings. The unit can record WAV and MP3 files onto a connected USB mass storage device. Connections include two Mic/Line inputs, two AUX inputs and two interpretation return inputs. The ATUC-IRCUDAN version includes all the features of the ATUC-IRCU plus a Dante output with redundancy.

The ATUC-IRDU Discussion Unit may be used with a choice of three gooseneck condenser microphones, two hypercardioid and one line cardioid, each of differing lengths. Intended for two users, the unit includes dual request-to-talk/mute buttons, indicator LEDs, and 3.5 mm (1/8") headphone jacks with volume controls, giving both users equal access to the microphone.

Microphone choices include the ATUC-M43H hypercardioid condenser gooseneck (446.0 mm/17.56" long); ATUC-M58H hypercardioid condenser gooseneck (596.0 mm/23.46" long); and ATUC-M32L line cardioid condenser gooseneck (320.0 mm/12.60" long).

Audio-Technica ATUC-IRA IR Transmitter/Receiver Unit.

The ceiling-mount ATUC-IRA IR Transmitter/Receiver Unit is designed for reception and transmission of the IRDU signals (maximum range 6 m/19.5 ft.). The unit has a white finish, measures 130 mm (5.1") W x 35 mm (1.4") D x 130 mm (5.1") H, and includes all mounting hardware.

Additional components of the new ATUC-IR Hybrid Infrared Discussion System include the ATUC-IRD IR Distributor, a mountable 2-to-1 BNC cable distributor, and the 10-slot ATCS-B60 Charger that recharges the LI-240a lithium batteries used in the ATUC-IRDU units.
