Alclair Audio Releases Hybrid Electrostatic Custom In-Ear Monitors

Alclair Audio, from Minneapolis, MN, released the Alclair Electro, the first custom in ear monitor to feature electrostatic drivers, and also the first headphone to power the electrostatic driver with an internal transformer, which makes it perfect for stage and studio use. The new Electro model uses 4 balanced armature drivers and a dual electrostatic tweeter, appealing both to music enthusiasts, studio engineers, producers, and performers.

Electrostatic speakers have been a fascination for audio lovers and critical listeners in the audio world. Their ability to reproduce a wide frequency response with very low distortion is highly regarded. One of the challenges of electrostatic speakers is the need for a transformer to charge the device. This has made it difficult to fit into a small form factor such as those needed for in-ear monitors and ear buds.

The new Alclair Audio Electro combines six drivers in a electrostatic hybrid in-ear monitor design - four balanced armature drivers and a dual electrostatic tweeter. The addition of dual low-end drivers provides plenty of headroom for stage applications, while the clarity and frequency response of the electrostatic drivers gives the Electro improved clarity and depth.

The wide soundstage resulting from this hybrid design allows audio engineers and producers to better place instruments in the mix, with the electrostatic tweeters creating the additional level of "depth" detail.

Continuing Alclair Audio's commitment to appropriately priced in-ear monitors, the Electro is now available for a street price of $1499. Alclair Audio will have the Electro electrostatic hybrid along with all their other in-ear monitors available to demo at Summer NAMM, June 28-30, in Nashville.
