Audio Engineering Society Confirms AES Vienna 2020 Cancellation

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) Vienna 2020 convention was cancelled due to the COVID-19 situation.

Following the cancellation of  "the live, in-person components of the AES Vienna 2020 Convention scheduled for May," the Audio Engineering Society announcement adds:
AES leadership, the Convention organizing committee and headquarters staff members are working diligently to organize the logistics of a virtualization of the Convention technical program into an engaging, compelling, educational and productive online experience.

Details on the virtual Convention, which are being developed to include video presentations of Papers, Workshops, Tutorials, Tech Tours and other technical program content along with live- and forum-based dialog with presenters, will be shared as they become available. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the myriad of options and details are finalized.

The Audio Engineering Society will announce the virtualization of some of the sessions and the reschedule the publication of papers and working documents.

The Audio Engineering Society has announced that AES Vienna 2020, the 148th Audio Engineering Society International Audio Convention will be held May 25 – 28 at the Austria Center Vienna. For end users, researchers, educators and students, AES Vienna will be the place to commemorate the International Year of Sound #IYS2020 #internationalyearofsound2020 and explore “A World of Audio” with audio professionals and peers from around the globe.

In the International Year of Sound, Europe’s preeminent professional audio education and networking event will connect the global community of audio professionals and immerse attendees in breaking technology and its applications. Spanning the breadth of audio research and the application of audio technology, convention program topics will include Studio Recording, Live Sound, Networked Audio, Broadcast & Streaming, Music Production, Post-Production, Game Audio, Spatial Sound, Audio for AR/VR/XR, Product Development and more.

Convention co-chairs are Piotr Majdak (Senior Researcher in Acoustics at the Austrian Academy of Sciences’ Acoustics Research Institute) and Nadja Wallaszkovits (Chief Audio Engineer for the Phonogrammarchiv sound archives of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and 2019 AES President), who will oversee the convention’s Technical Program, Exhibition and Society functions, in conjunction with an assembled team of industry professionals, students and event partners and sponsors.
