TEAC Debuts HA-P50 Portable Headphone Amplifier With USB DAC

TEAC introduced its new HA-P50 Portable Headphone Amplifier with an integrated USB digital-to-analog converter (DAC), designed for high-quality audio listening with mobile devices. The new TEAC HA-P50 delivers the same TEAC Reference 501-grade headphone listening experience anywhere in a device ideal for traveling.

The HA-P50 incorporates a high-performance DAC and a high-specification power amplifier circuit into a compact form factor designed to bring out the very best from quality headphones. This new headphone amplifier is designed to operate with laptop computers (PC/Mac) as well as Apple iOS devices.

The HA-P50 also works with the TEAC Hi-Res Audio Player for Mac and Windows as well as TEAC’s Hi-Res Audio Player for iOS. With support for high-resolution 24-bit / 96 kHz digital audio, the unit’s BurrBrown PCM5102 digital-to-analog converter delivers pristine audio performance for faithful and accurate playback.

The new TEAC HA-P50 also employs an OPA 1652 operational amplifier to process audio signals and the discrete push-pull circuit achieves a very low distortion rate of 0.001% (at 100 mW + 100 mW output) that IC-based amplifier headphone circuits simply cannot match.

The HA-P50’s power amplifier is equally impressive. The 160 mW + 160 mW (for the left-right channels) high-output power amplifier (at 32-Ω load) is designed to drive 600 Ω-class headphones at full power. And to ensure the perfect match with any headphones, the HA-P50 features a dual-setting high / low gain switch.

Other notable attributes of the new HA-P50 Portable Headphone Amplifier include a dual function optical digital/analog input. This dual input can accept either an optical (OPT) cable with a mini-plug or a standard audio cable with a 3.5-mm stereo mini-plug—enabling the HA-P50 to accept input from non-digital audio players and pass the signal through its sophisticated amplifier circuits. Further, the HA-P50 can re-charge via USB or by the DC IN 5V connector with the optionally available PS-P515U DC power supply. A full charge provides eight hours of operation.

Hiroshi Oshima, Vice President of the Consumer Product Division of TEAC Corporation, commented on the company’s new HA-P50 Portable Headphone Amplifier, “The HA-P50 is an exceptional headphone amp for the audiophile on the go. The unit has a compact, robust aluminum body that makes it easy to use the device anywhere and the audio quality is second to none. We’ve incorporated the finest components into the design of this headphone amp and I’m confident music aficionados everywhere will appreciate its world-class performance.”

TEAC’s HA-P50 Portable Headphone Amplifier costs $299.99 and is now available.
