Audioengine, an innovative brand of affordable home audio products is now shipping its 2nd Generation Hi-Res 32-bit D1 Portable Headphone Amplifier and DAC. Engineered for music lovers on the go, the compact D1 is equipped with both USB-C and optical (SPDIF) inputs. The DAC is equipped with an ESS ES9018 DAC and an optical receiver ESS9018, offering a full-scale output of 2.0V RMS with an output impedance of 4.7 ohm, working with the most demanding headphones.

The new Audioengine D1 Portable Headphone Amplifier and DAC can handle up to 32-bit input bit depth and input data rates of up to 384KS/s, with a frequency response of 20-20KH. The D1 uses the ESS ES9018 DAC (old but still respectable), well regarded for its low noise and high fidelity. Due to the high signal-to-noise specs of the ES9018 and the added benefit of double redundancy power source conversion and filtering, the D1 presents impressive low noise and low distortion characteristics. The D1 can process digital audio at any bit depth up to 24-bits and any sample rate up to 96kHz (192kHz using optical).

The D1 includes the ES9601C SABRE headphone driver amp with circuit protection and is designed for a wide range of headphones that will satisfy even the most critical listeners. The headphone amplifier is powered directly from the USB-C input and passed through two stages of regulation to ensure no USB power variations affect the audio quality. Because of the efficiency of the D1, it can even be powered by a phone or tablet.

The audio line-out preamp connects to powered speaker systems, amplifiers, or other external decoders with an analog or optical output. Volume for headphones and line-out is controlled directly from the D1 front panel via the digitally-controlled analog potentiometer, allowing users to smoothly adjust volume levels at fine increments without any undesirable noise or channel imbalance at lower volumes.

The D1 also features USB Audio 2.0, RCA and mini jack outputs, making it compatible with phones, tablets, computers or laptops. Its compact design, measuring 90x74x22mm, and lightweight build make it easy to take on the go.

One of the standout features is its SG2019 USB power filtering, which ensures a clean power supply and noise-free listening experience. It also has an SNR of over 105dB, THD+N of less than 0.0025% @ 1KHz, and crosstalk of -46dB.

"We're really excited about the launch of our new 2nd Generation D1," said Audioengine CEO, Nate Rodriguez. "We've designed this product to offer an unparalleled audio experience for music lovers on the go. It's a must-have for anyone who wants to listen to their music the way it was meant to be heard."
