Manufacturer and systems integrator of scalable storage solutions JMR Electronics announced the general availability of their new Lightning LTNG-XTD portable Thunderbolt SSD Flash Drive. The ultra-compact PCIe Flash Drive with Thunderbolt 2 interface is a portable bus-powered drive requiring no external power source, and is introduced with 256GB storage capacity, with 512GB and 1.02TB models being added in the future. It easily connects to a compatible Mac or Windows computer with a Thunderbolt port, or at the end of a Thunderbolt device daisy chain, via its attached Thunderbolt cable.
The LTNG-XTD SSD Flash Drive leverages the latest generation M.2 PCIe SSD technology, coupling a 20Gb/s Thunderbolt 2 interface that provides real world sustained read and write file transfer speeds of between 1,200 to 1,400 MB/s. The unit incorporates a PCIe Generation 3 flash controller, enabling it to easily outperform 6Gb/s SATA SSDs and 5Gb/s USB 3.0 flash drives. The flash drive is compatible and certified for use with OS X (including Yosemite) and Windows 7+ OS.
To keep the size ultra-compact, the new LTNG-XTD SSD Flash Drive has an integrated anodized aluminum finned heat sink covering its entire surface area, which allows sustained, silent operation 24/7 while significantly extending its life span.
“We are delighted to be working with Intel to be among the first to bring to market our Thunderbolt 2 equipped SSD Flash Drive,” added Josef Rabinovitz, president and CEO of JMR Electronics. “The LTNG-XTD is the ideal, portable and ultra light-weight storage complement for creative and business professionals needing a high performance shuttle drive for in-house and offsite workflows — from viewing and editing digital dailies, to being used as a scratch disk, ruggedized transport medium or back-up tool.”
“Intel is pleased to work with JMR to bring to market one of the industry’s first bus-powered Thunderbolt 2 PCIe SSD storage devices,” said Jason Ziller, Director of Thunderbolt Marketing, Intel Corporation. “Thunderbolt PCIe SSD Flash Drives such as JMR’s newly released LTNG-XTD portable SSD demonstrate what is possible with Thunderbolt technology, setting new milestones for performance, portability and affordability for the industry.”
The new LTNG-XTD portable Thunderbolt SSD is part of the new Lightning family of Thunderbolt certified storage products from JMR Electronics.
