Genelec’s 8000 Series is widely used in the high-end professional audio, mastering, post-production and broadcast market sectors around the world. Its professional heritage is reflected in the new compact-sized 8010, previously announced at the NAMM Show 2014.

Suitable for professional work in small studios, the 8010 Active Monitor offers accurate monitoring capability with ease of installation. The outstanding sound quality makes the 8010 ideal for small editorial studios and OB vans, and a perfect companion for portable recording devices and other mobile production work.

Similar in size to the popular 6010B, the 8010 is definitely a different monitor, featuring a balanced XLR input, 3-inch bass driver, 3/4-inch tweeter and efficient Class D power amplifiers – one for each driver – the 8010 produces more sound pressure level than might be expected from a monitor of this size. The Intelligent Signal Sensing ISS circuitry saves energy by automatically putting the monitor to sleep when the audio signal has been absent for a period of time. Once a signal is detected again, the monitor wakes up automatically. This circuitry can be bypassed when the automatic standby function is not desired.

Worth comparing, the 8010 is slightly deeper than the 6010B because of the new power amps (rated at 25+25 Watt instead of the 12+12W on the 6010B), resulting on a slightly higher weight of 1.5 Kg (3.3 lb) (1.4 Kg (3.1 lb) in the 6010B). Basically the 8010 is able to achieve a higher maximum sound pressure level (96 dB versus 93dB in the 6010B) and an extended frequency response from 74 Hz - 20 kHz (± 2.5 dB) (74 Hz - 18 kHz (± 2.5 dB) on the 6010B) using the same driver arrangement of a 3” woofer and ¾” tweeter, and using XLR 10 kOhm connectors instead of the RCA in the 6010B.

A full range of versatile accessories is available for the 8010, which cover all mounting needs. For example, an L-shaped table stand can be used to optimize monitor orientation toward the listening position and to minimize undesired sound reflections. The 8010 can be used with the 7050B subwoofer for extended bass frequency reproduction in stereo 2.1 and 5.1 surround configurations providing an ideal solution for smaller rooms.

The 8010 Active Monitor is now available at a U.S. MSRP of $440.00 each.
