Aerial Acoustics Expands Loudspeaker Lineup With Three New Designs
January 4 2016, 03:10
Aerial Acoustics is expanding its loudspeaker lineup with a new small speaker, Model 5T, the launch of the 7LCR high performance on-wall / in-wall loudspeaker and the addition of the Model 7CC center channel Speaker. All three speakers are completely new designs, using new construction techniques and high quality finishes, with custom-made drivers.
Since its beginnings in 1989, Aerial Acoustics has been designing high performance, high-end loudspeakers, exploring advances in materials, construction techniques, and acoustic analysis. All Aerial Acoustics loudspeakers are designed, engineered and assembled in Massachusetts.
According to the company, the Aerial Acoustics Model 5T represents a complete reevaluation of the possibilities of the small speaker. Although replacing its respected 5B model, the 5T is a completely new design. It offers significant improvements in system sensitivity, dynamics, treble delicacy, midrange transparency, and bass extension without coloration. Designed specifically for placement 2” to 2’ from a wall, it also offers a convincing performance used in a bookshelf, tabletop, or on a stand.
The Model 5T reflects the brand’s larger and more expensive Model 6T and Model 7T designs. It shares the same curved cabinet construction, high gloss finish, the same tweeter, similar woofer refinement, and the same high level of crossover components and wiring.
The 5T’s extremely rigid and inert curved shape is created by bonding multiple layers of wood together under high pressure for 48 hours in a 20 ton press. The resulting thick cabinet walls are further cross-braced. The front baffle is attached to the cabinet face with damping glue which reduces the flow of energy from the drivers into the cabinet walls. The internal volume is damped with New Zealand long-fiber wool specifically chosen for its sonic character. All these steps insure an inert enclosure capable of reproducing soft or loud music passages without sonic colorations. Finally the Model 5T cabinet is finished by hand in multi-layer Nero Metallic Black, High Gloss Rosenut, or an all-new premium High Gloss Ebony.
The Aerial 5T features the natural sounding 1” woven ring-dome dual-magnet tweeter from the 7T, along with a new 6.7” long-stroke papyrus-blend driver custom-made for the 5T. With the optimized high-order multi-element crossover, the result is a natural life-like presentation and seamless, highly detailed response from 48 Hz to 23 kHz.
“Our commitment to provide a compact high performance speaker in a beautiful package meant we had to design a new front slotted port, refined drivers and crossover topology that allowed placement near a boundary while producing the natural and realistic reproduction of music we have become known for over the last 25 years,” explains Michael Kelly, Aerial Acoustics President.
7LCR On-Wall / In-Wall Speaker
The Aerial Acoustics Model 7LCR is a high performance 3-way loudspeaker designed specifically for on-wall or in-wall use. With dimensions of 38 x 8 x 4.8” deep and simple 2-point mounting using brackets supplied, vertical or horizontal installation is easy either on or in a wall. Most importantly, the 7LCR provides the same balance, natural tonality, delicate resolution, sensitivity, wide dynamics, and high output as larger Aerial floor standing models, sacrificing only the lowest octave.
The all-new 7LCR design, with its rotatable thick aluminum center plate, allows the tweeter and midrange drivers to be properly aligned for either vertical or horizontal use. Dual rear switches optimize the response for different mounting positions, including behind screens, and for use in any system.
The Model 7LCR reflects the design of the new Aerial 5T, 6T and 7T models, using the same curved shape layers of wood, individual front woofer baffles, thick black brushed-aluminum center plate and New Zealand long-fiber wool damping. The Model LCR cabinet is finished by hand in multi-layer high gloss Nero Metallic Black.
As for the drivers, it features the same 1” woven ring-dome dual-magnet Danish tweeter from the 7T, a quick-acceleration custom-made papyrus-blend midrange driver based on the 6T and 7T drivers, and two special new 6.7” long-stroke aluminum cone woofers custom-made for the 7LCR. The optimized crossover and comprehensive environmental compensation switching allows for a seamless, highly detailed response from 60 Hz to 25 kHz.
Model 7CC Center Channel Speaker
Aerial Acoustics has been acknowledged for its excellent center-channel speaker designs. Starting with the original CC3, followed by the much larger CC5, continuing with the improved CC3B, to the current CC3C, the process has reached a new high in the Model 7CC.
The new Model 7CC provides improvements in response when used with any of Aerial’s main speakers, providing a seamless, realistic front soundstage. Its trim 24 x 8 x 12” deep package is easily placed on a shelf, tabletop or stand. Three 7CCs in a row can be used to create an extended sound bar installation. Rear-panel switching can be adjusted to optimize for different mounting positions. The switching also allows the 7CC to be used with a wide range of other main speakers.
The Model 7CC reflects the Aerial Model 5T, 6T and 7T designs. It shares the same curved cabinet construction and high gloss finishes, the same tweeter, similar design and refinement in the midrange and woofers, and the same high level of crossover components and wiring. The cabinet is finished by hand in multi-layer Nero Metallic Black or High Gloss Rosenut using imported German veneers.
The Aerial 7CC features the natural sounding 1” woven ring-dome dual-magnet Danish tweeter from the 7T, a midrange driver based on the 6T and 7T designs, and a new dedicated 6.7” long-stroke woofer custom-made for the 7CC. With the optimized high-order multi-element crossover and environmental compensation, the result is a highly detailed response from 55 Hz to 25 kHz.
