64 Audio, the in-ear monitor company from Vancouver, WA, announced the launch of the Duo Universal In Ear Monitor. Available now with an MSRP of $1,199 USD, the two-driver IEM has been designed for discerning music enthusiasts looking for a high resolution, universal hybrid option for any number of uses, including music, home theater, gaming, and more.

“Duo is a dual driver hybrid design built with 64 Audio’s complete Tia System, Apex Core, Wave Sync, and LID technologies,” explains Vitaliy Belonozhko, 64 Audio founder and chief sound designer. “Duo presents 64 Audio’s signature balanced sound in a whole new way. The simple audio design captures the listener’s auditory senses while forgetting they’re wearing IEMs in the first place. The seamless faceplate machining and perforated grill is a departure from traditional IEM aesthetics bearing a welcome resemblance to classic open-back designs.”

As a universal IEM model, Duo was designed to feel light, leaving the users ears feeling open and relaxed even for long listening periods, the company says. "The listeners feel simultaneously connected to their physical surroundings while they’re enveloped by music. Relaxed tonality lets you put them on and get lost."

“Duo is able to present a non-analytical top-end while retaining air and sizzle,” Belonozhko continues. “The vast open air sensation supports an unobstructed soundstage with impactful center imaging, which is unlike many other open back headphones, as well as no loss of bass. Duo effortlessly produces deep and rich low frequencies with plenty of sub bass.”

The constant pursuit of an open, wide, and fatigue-free listening experience has led 64 Audio to develop Apex Core, a deeper understanding of air movement within an earphone system. Duo’s faceplate features a perforated grill that leaves the shell of the IEM open to the outside atmosphere for a less obstructed airflow resulting in an effortless reproduction of music and minimal physical fatigue.

Rather than constricting the sound of the drivers by fitting a tube onto them, Duo’s complete Tia System reduces unwanted resonance and distortion by allowing the 9mm Dynamic Driver plus a Tia High Driver to radiate freely into the single large Tia bore with no obstructions to the front of the drivers.

“Due to the high crossover point between the two drivers, Wave Sync was developed to ensure coherence... another industry first,” Belonozhko adds. “By using a type of ‘all-pass’ filter, we’re able to introduce a crossover while correcting for time without having to change the physical distance between the drivers. Plus, the complex faceplate assembly not only serves an important role in protecting the shell of the IEM while allowing air to flow freely, it is also a major step in 64 Audio’s product design evolution. Duo is a timeless and elegant design reminiscent of open-back over-ear headphones.”

From studio to stage to sophisticated home audio environments, 64 Audio creates universal and custom-built in-ear monitors available to date. The company was founded in 2010 by Vitaliy Belonozhko, a sound engineer who has been working with musicians and production companies for nearly two decades. He discovered the advantages of IEMs over traditional floor “wedges” and recognized that a better solution to in-ear monitoring was needed. Today, 64 Audio supplies products worldwide to some of the best-known musicians, singers, and engineers in the world, as well as discerning audiophiles who demand nothing but the best sound reproduction from their systems.
