During my time at the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2019 show, I looked closely at how companies are dealing with the transition to IP networks, how prevalent some proprietary technologies still are in commercial installation and AV in particular (e.g., HDBaseT), and how manufacturers are introducing new products and concepts to integrate those networked systems, in particular those protocols that support AES67 audio and the latest SMPTE ST-2110 suite of standards in general.

The 50th anniversary celebrations have already started with Beyma's presence at the 2019 Winter NAMM show, and will continue throughout the year, including a party scheduled already for Prolight+Sound 2019 in Frankfurt, Germany.

Nadja Wallaszkovits Assumes Role as President of the Audio Engineering Society

The AES announced the ascension of Nadja Wallaszkovits to the office of President, taking on the role as of January 1, 2019. "Having worked with Nadja for many years as part of the AES team, we look forward to having her serve in the role of president, as the Society continues our mission to promote science and education in the field of audio engineering. Nadja’s knowledge of audio engineering technologies and experience within the AES will be a valuable asset in the coming year," states AES Past-President David Scheirman.

Audio Engineering Society Appoints Colleen Harper as Executive Director

The Audio Engineering Society announced the appointment of Colleen Harper as the Society’s Executive Director, effective January 21, 2019. Harper takes the position from Bob Moses, who decided to step down as the AES executive director after six and a half years in the role. “With the addition of Colleen’s proven record of leadership, we expect 2019 to be a banner year for the Society,” stated AES President Nadja Wallaszkovits.

Test Bench: The Peerless by Tymphany PMT-40N25AL01-04 Mini Full-Range Driver

The 1" diameter full-range drivers are among the most used transducers in consumer electronics. They are finding broad use in numerous Bluetooth speakers. The driver submitted by Tymphany for this Test Bench fits into that category. The Peerless by Tymphany PMT-40N25AL01-04 is a 25-mm (1”) diameter full-range driver built on a proprietary injection-molded two-piece polycarbonate (one piece for the motor assembly structure and one piece for the protective grill). Getting the Most from THAT’s Balanced Line Drivers and Receivers

I completed the design and construction of an archival phono preamplifier, which provides variable equalization along with several other operational necessities for playing vintage records (78-rpm discs, pre-RIAA LPs, lacquer transcription discs, and so on). When it came to selecting topologies for the balanced inputs and outputs, I ruled out transformers due to high cost, physical bulk, and weight. As audioXpress reported back in October 2018, there's a company again surfing the analog wave trend, successfully selling new reel-to-reel tapes for audiophiles, studios, and archives, and it has now decided to offer new blank music cassettes and is making available bulk cassette tape for duplicators. RecordingTheMasters launched the new FOX C-60 Analog Compact Music Cassette in the retail market and audioXpress interviewed Jean-Luc Renou, CEO of Mulann at the recent Audio Engineering Society convention in New York to learn more.

146th Audio Engineering Society AES Dublin 2019 Convention

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) has announced the organizing committee and keynote address for the upcoming AES Dublin Convention, taking place March 20 – 23, 2019, at the Convention Centre in Dublin, Ireland. For its 146th International Convention, the association makes its first trip to Dublin, Ireland, set to “Excite Your Ears” as the preeminent European pro audio event of the year.
