Zoom Unveils UAC-232 32-Bit Float USB-C Audio Interface

February 20 2023, 01:10
The world of digital audio is now finally getting to that threshold where the last recognized limitations of existing recording technology have been surpassed. The new all-new Zoom UAC-232 USB-C audio interface is the company's first dedicated 32-bit float, ultra-high-dynamic-range recording solution. Designed in a convenient format that works well on the desktop or mobile applications, the Zoom UAC-232 is a 2-in/2-out solution that establishes a new affordable standard for digital recording and more.
The Zoom UAC-232 audio interface inherits the technology developed for the acclaimed F-Series Field Recorders from the Japanese company. Making 32-bit floating-point audio technology affordable for musicians, the Zoom UAC-232 allows users to capture clip-free, low-noise recordings. The advanced Dual AD circuitry combined with 32-bit float recording technology and the high quality mic preamps equivalent to those of the F6 Field Recorder guarantee high-quality recordings in every setting.

32-bit float ultra-high-dynamic-range recording technology offers the ability to record signals exceeding 0 dBFS. There is in fact so much headroom that from a fidelity standpoint, it doesn’t matter where gains are set while recording. Audio levels in the 32-bit float WAV file can be adjusted up or down after recording with most major DAW software with no added noise or distortion.

Thanks to its compact and intelligent design, the Zoom UAC-232 can be placed vertically, horizontally or even be mounted to a mic stand with the included hook-and-loop straps. With 2 XLR/TRS combo inputs for mic or line level input with +48V phantom power available for condenser microphones, 2 TRS outputs and a headphone output with enough power (100 mW) to drive the most demanding headphones with no distortion, the UAC-232 is a perfect, compact solution for content creators, musicians and podcasters to record, stream and mix with a PC, Mac or iOS device (Android not supported).

The company's UAC-232 Mix Control software for PC, Mac or iOS allows users to modify I/O routing, activate loopback, and control input and monitoring levels. Users can activate a convenient Music mode to route the DAW and record up to 192kHz sample rate, or use Streaming mode combining all inputs into a single signal for streaming software.

Musicians can even use the UAC-232 as a perfect DI/interface, leveraging the Guitar/Bass high-impedance inputs and the two TRS main outputs with volume control. The MIDI in/out also allow musicians to connect to external keyboards, drum machines, sequencers, and synthesizers. With the advantage that the instruments output can be used to feed a backstage system, stage monitors, or house PA, while also being recorded. Monitoring can be done conveniently through the headphone output, all simply being bus-powered via USB-C from a laptop.

The Zoom UAC-232 audio interface will ship in March 2023.
