USound and Partners to Deliver Next-Generation Over-the-Counter Hearing Aid

March 30 2023, 00:35
Following the announcement of the availability of a fully integrated audio module for its MEMS drivers, USound announced a collaboration with partners to develop and deliver a reference design for a cutting-edge over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aid. The reference design will integrate USound’s Kore 4.0 audio module, ASE’s Micro SiP (System-in-Package), and OBO Pro2’s hearing aid design, delivering an advanced hearing aid alternative for the emerging OTC market.

The partnership combines the strengths of all three companies. USound’s expertise in advanced audio technology and its newest Kore 4.0 module will ensure superior sound quality and performance. Taiwan-based ASE Chung-Li (ASECL), provides its most compact Bluetooth Micro SiP, designed specifically for hearable devices; while OBO Pro2, an experienced hearing aid manufacturer headquartered in Taiwan with manufacturing operations in Dongguan, China, delivers the OTC hearing aid and integrates all components into a sleek and user-friendly device.

"We are thrilled to partner with OBO Pro2 and ASE Chung-Li to create a state-of-the-art over-the-counter hearing aid that meets the needs of millions of people suffering from hearing loss worldwide," says Ferruccio Bottoni, CEO of USound. "Our Kore 4.0 module combined with ASE’s latest Bluetooth Micro SiP provides a superior audio experience, while OBO Pro2’s expertise in hearing aid design ensures that the device is easy to use and comfortable to wear."

The reference design enables hearing aid manufacturers to rapidly research and develop OTC hearing aid designs using USound's MEMS drivers, which offer unique features for highly processed audio signal products, meeting the highest standards of performance and reliability. Products based on Usound's drivers should benefit from dramatically higher consistency when compared with conventional dynamic drivers and BAs, while allowing for lower power and increased production efficiency.

"Usound embedded ASE’s Micro SiP to provide a high-quality and reliable hearing aid solution to our customers. We believe that our expertise in hearing aid design combined with USound’s advanced audio technology will enable us to deliver a superior product that will make a positive impact on people’s lives,” says the CEO of OBO Pro2.

With an estimated 500 million people worldwide suffering from hearing loss, the market for OTC hearing assistance devices will grow significantly in the coming years as the hearables category expands and receives consumer recognition.

Usound estimates the reference design to be available to hearing aid manufacturers in the second half of 2023.
