TEAC Launches Reference 500 Series Stereo Power Amplifier with Hypex NCOREx Technology

February 12 2025, 00:35
TEAC from Japan continues to expand its Reference 500 series of compact home audio components, now with the announcement of the AP-507 stereo power amplifier, based on a custom module using the latest Hypex NCOREx technology. Available in black and silver finishes, the design of the AP-507 is a clear nod to the classic hifi components from Japan with its large illuminated level meters, even if reduced to the compact dimensions of a TEAC 500 Series component.

Designed to give a new generation of music enthusiasts more flexibility in building or fine-tuning their home audio systems,   the new TEAC AP-507 is a stereo power amplifier from the Reference 500 series, the brand's premium compact hifi components, downsized to an A4 “letter size” footprint. Designed  to offer exceptional performance whether used as a standalone stereo unit (170W+170W, 4Ω) or paired for advanced configurations in bi-amp mode or high-power BTL mode (350W/8Ω), the AP-507 is even an excellent choice for enhancing AV surround sound systems.

Interestingly, the AP-507 is equipped with TEAC's own custom-tuned new generation Hypex NCOREx power amplifier module, which ensures its owners will benefit from the latest Class-D quality. As TEAC describes it, the "advanced “x” generation NCORE technology delivers an immersive, three-dimensional soundstage and a more expansive spatial presence. At the heart of its superior sound is TEAC’s in-house designed dual-mono buffer amplifier, refined with meticulous attention to component and circuit detail for unparalleled clarity and richness."

Encased in a robust chassis, the AP-507 features a 2.8mm thick semi-floating aluminum top plate and an innovative 3-point Stress-Less Isolation Foot system. This precision-engineered design minimizes vibrations, creating a more open and natural listening experience. On the front panel we just gave one large illuminated dual pointer metering window, with a toggle button for a 4-step dimmer and 2-step sensitivity switch.

Internally, this is a fully balanced circuit design on all stages, using a proprietary dual-mono buffer amplifier tuned by TEAC, and powered by a high-capacity power supply using a large toroidal transformer and 18,800 μF capacitors par channel. The fan-less design also offers an auto power-saving function, as required by modern home components. On the rear panels, we find XLR and RCA inputs for each channel, 12V trigger in/through connectors, and large screw-type speaker binding posts, which will happily handle 4Ω to 16Ω speakers. A switch determines the output mode for Stereo, bi-amp, or BTL mono.

The AP-507 will be available to purchase in spring 2025 in Silver and Black, online from teacusa.com and select dealers. The MSRP is USD $2199 or EUR €1899.
