The new Gravis III subwoofer completes the Olympica Nova speaker line and follows the style of previous products, with high quality materials and finishes selected for the enclosure aesthetics, including black leather and discreet piano black wooden finish surfaces. However, the subwoofer’s top finishes of Wengè and Walnut matte are intended to create the connection to the newer Olympica Nova collection.
The removable fabric grille with metal pins covers a powerful 10” (250 mm) ultra-long throw driver featuring a Trilaminated sandwich cone diaphragm with a honeycomb layer in between, managing the driver’s excursion and resistance flexing. This cone material formula, according to Sonus faber, provides the right combination of stiffness and extreme lightness, allowing the subwoofer excursion to produce the tightest and most accurate bass reproduction possible.
This driver is able to support a frequency response down to 25 Hz (@-6dB, acoustic Linkwitz 4th order roll-on, default setting) and the crossover frequency can be continuously adjustable.
The built-in Class AB 600W into an 8-ohm load amplifier was selected for its huge energy reserve, responsible for the fast response, further linearized due to a specially designed DSP section, implemented in the input preamp stage, that also allows adjustments in order to satisfy multiple application needs.
Many connectivity options are available in the Gravis III subwoofer backplate, starting with a Speakon 4 pin connector, managing the two L and R channels. The inputs include balanced or unbalanced line levels, respectively through two 3-pin XLR and RCA plugs. The LFE signal can be fed to the subwoofer through the shared XLR or RCA. For those situations where it’s not practical to run long cables from the receiver/preamp/processor, the Gravis III subwoofer offers a wireless receiver to pair with the optional transmitter.
The Gravis III also fully controllable by means of a dedicated, user-friendly app. The user can choose among 4 presets, modify the cutoff frequency, and the acoustical output phase for seamless integration with the main loudspeakers. Delay, parametric filters and limiters are also available for the most accurate sonic performance calibration. A simple self-calibration procedure is also available to achieve ideal subwoofer performance in relation to the acoustics of the listening room. To minimize its energy footprint, the Gravis III has a selectable auto-on and auto-off function.
The new subwoofer model will be available for purchase through authorized dealers in February 2020, at $2,750 USD (retail).
