A new software development company headquartered in The Netherlands, Sound on Digital is the latest name to join the Ravenna audio-over-IP partner community. Founded by a team of developers with experience in audio networking and programming, Sound on Digital recently announced the availability of RavennaKit, a new Software Development Kit (SDK) for implementing audio-over-IP technology into new products.

Designed to simplify and accelerate the integration of Ravenna audio networking into third-party software products, RavennaKit delivers a complete solution for OEMs and developers, offering low-latency audio transport, precise synchronization, and broad platform compatibility.

Sound on Digital specializes in the development of software solutions for the professional audio market, and its RavennaKit SDK supports Ravenna, AES67, and SMPTE ST2110-30 on macOS, Windows, Linux. Written in modern C++17, the SDK also includes NMOS for device discovery and management, ST2022-7 for stream redundancy, and PTPv2 for precision time synchronization, and offers a high-level API for easy integration into any application.

According to Sound on Digital, RavennaKit is a commercially licensed product that grants full access to the source code with no vendor lock-in. The company offers an optional annual renewal for ongoing updates and support. "We created RavennaKit to make it easier for developers to bring high-performance AoIP capabilities into their products without having to build everything from scratch," says Ruurd Adema, Founder and Principal Developer at Sound on Digital.

"In a media landscape that is rapidly becoming software-defined, RavennaKit is the perfect foundation for building scalable, future-ready AoIP applications that meet the evolving needs of modern audio workflows. The Ravenna protocol is robust, open, and widely adopted in the broadcast and pro audio industries — by making it more accessible through a clean, modular SDK, we hope to accelerate innovation and adoption among manufacturers and software providers," he adds.
Ravenna is a technology for real-time distribution of audio and other media content in IP-based network environments, using standardized network protocols and technologies. Ravenna is designed to meet the strict requirements of the pro audio market featuring low latency, full signal transparency and high reliability, being suitable for live sound, fixed installations, and recording. Unlike most other existing networking solutions, Ravenna is an open technology standard with no proprietary licensing policy. Ravenna is fully compatible with the AES67 and SMPTE ST 2110 standards.

While Lawo serves as the gatekeeper of the Ravenna technology, product implementations are executed by individual partner companies, such as DirectOut, Genelec, Lawo, Merging, Peavey, Qbit, and many others. Network infrastructure companies such as Meinberg, NETGEAR, Luminex and others support the Ravenna technology to ensure easy deployment, utmost operating precision, and highest reliability.

Andreas Hildebrand, Ravenna Evangelist at Lawo, is pleased to welcome Sound on Digital to the Ravenna community: "With RavennaKit, Sound on Digital lowers the barrier for developers looking to leverage Ravenna in software-centric environments. We’re excited to welcome them to the Ravenna partner community and look forward to the new possibilities this collaboration will unlock."
