Morel attended the High End show in Munich to showcase how the company's speaker drivers can be at the core of both flagship high-end products but also innovative consumer designs. BIGGIE is the latest design from Morel, a more compact and portable speaker that expands on the brand's Högtalare, now adding a headphone-like handle and the latest Bluetooth BLE wireless technology. And Morel says that the BIGGIE will be also ready to support Auracast when it starts shipping, later in 2023.
The new Morel BIGGIE is a great example of a minimalist design intended to fit in any modern home style. Its compact square shape evolves from the successful Högtalare, in a smaller version that fits into any room or space. The leather-like (animal-friendly) handle adds to its portability, allowing users to move it from place to place with ease. And the BIGGIE is available in seven fun colors that can match any décor and add a touch of personality to the audio experience, including black, white, red, dark blue, light blue, olive green, and turquoise.
As Morel explains, the company's experience in supplying drivers and design ultra-premium speaker systems for home audio, enable it to also explore this more affordable level of consumer products, without compromising on audio quality. The BIGGIE expands the lifestyle Högtalare series with a small, portable wireless hi-fi speaker that measures only 18x18 cm (7x7 inches), but packs a powerful punch.
At the heart of the BIGGIE's portable speaker system is a 2-way, bass reflex system that incorporates a 4" custom-made, high excursion woofer to ensure that the bass frequencies are reproduced accurately and with great depth. Complemented by Morel's renowned 25mm (1") soft dome tweeter, the BIGGIE reproduces high frequencies with exceptional clarity and detail without any harshness or distortion for a balanced sound across the entire frequency spectrum. A small square speaker that is able to offer an hifi sound.
Apart from the speaker drivers, Morel added customized DSP technology to optimize its sound quality. This DSP allows Morel's acoustic engineers to configure a dynamic EQ which continually adjusts according to the set listening volume to create a well-balanced and natural sound, free from distortion and coloration. The built-in Class-D amplifier delivers 45W to the woofer and 15W to tweeter, enabling 95dB SPL measured @1m within acceptable distortion parameters.
The other strong appeal in this little speaker is that it offers a convenient wireless solution that sounds great anywhere, and can even be part of a multispeaker configuration at home or for a party. And this is because Morel equipped the BIGGIE with the latest Bluetooth 5.3 technology, which allows the speaker to be portable up to 100 meters (330 ft) from the audio source, without dropouts or interruptions.
The improved wireless coverage and reliability, make the BIGGIE perfect for indoor events and any room in the home. In addition to its long-range capabilities, the BIGGIE also supports advanced features, such as TWS pairing and multi-speaker connection (available with the release of the dedicated control app, which Morel estimates will be available later in 2023). This means that the BIGGIE can be paired in stereo configurations, or used to create parties with multiple units.
The BIGGIE also includes a 3.5mm jack input to enable connecting any non-Bluetooth audio source, and with a battery life allowing up to 20 hours of playtime, this means enjoying music outdoors all day long. Charging is done via USB-C, with fast charging enabling a full recharge in just 2 hours and reverse charging allowing users to keep their phones charging.
