Lyngdorf Audio High-End Cue-100 Speaker Unveiled at ISE 2023

February 10 2023, 00:45
Lyngdorf Audio launched its all-new high-end audio loudspeaker, the Cue-100. The Lyngdorf Cue-100 is the first loudspeaker from the brand merging modern Danish design with the latest Purifi speaker technology. The benchmark-setting Purifi aluminum drivers are integrated in a uniquely shaped cabinet, finished in satin-black or satin-white with solid oak elements, and available with a selection of five all-around fabric covers by Gabriel from Denmark.

Founded in 2005 by Peter Lyngdorf, Lyngdorf Audio is the high-end loudspeaker and amplifier brand that better translates its founder's spirit and vision. Beginning as a distributor of home entertainment components in 1975, in 1980, Peter Lyngdorf established the Northern European audio retail chain, HiFi Klubben, followed in 1983 by the introduction of his own loudspeaker brand, DALI (Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries). Following the creation of Lyngdorf Audio, in 2007 he acquired exclusive rights Steinway & Sons to manufacture audio systems under the brand name Steinway Lyngdorf.

Steinway Lyngdorf and Lyngdorf Audio today share most of the same company structure and share the same booths at trade shows, as it happened at ISE 2023 in Barcelona. Both brands meet the unique needs of different customers with different levels of money to spend, and both brands offer specific products for custom installation. Otherwise, all Lyngdorf Audio components share the technologically advanced DNA of the Steinway Lyngdorf product line, with the additional benefit of flexible connectivity and the ability to be combined with other audio and video component brands.

In 2014, Peter Lyngdorf, together with Lars Risbo and Bruno Putzeys, invested in Purifi ApS to focus on the development and verification of accurate mathematical models to solve real problems in sound reproduction. Apart from these brands and investments, Peter Lyngdorf’s holding company consists of multiple development facilities and factories in Denmark and China and over 1,000 employees.

As the company states in its own website, Lyngdorf Audio approach to product development "has always been to implement technologies which are tested, proven, and supported by hard facts." We have seen the Purifi Eigentakt 1ET400A amplifier modules already inside the latest Lyngdorf Audio streaming amplifiers, but we still had to see a Lyngdorf Audio loudspeaker design using the fast expanding range of Purifi transducers.

Designed and made at Lyngdorf Audio in Skive, Denmark, the new Cue-100 is a loudspeaker for design-conscious music lovers, and also the first to feature prominently the advancements of Purifi Audio, which has set new benchmarks in speaker technology by creating ultra-low-distortion long-stroke woofers. Its speaker drivers achieve the market’s overall best measured performance for its extended frequency response range, as demonstrated in multiple independent tests. Several innovative technologies were developed to achieve this result. The most recognizable is the Neutral Surround Geometry, where the ring shape consists of alternating mountain ridges. As a result of its ultra-low-distortion these drivers also award superior sound reproduction and detail resolution.

For the Cue-100 speaker, Lyngdorf Audio selected a Purifi 6.5X04NAA , aluminum cone midrange/woofer with a die-cast vented basket, and a four-layer copper-clad aluminum voice coil with variable winding pitch on a fiberglass former. To extend the bass response, there are two ultra low distortion Purifi PTT6.5PR aluminum cone passive radiators, positioned on each side of the triangular shaped cabinet. Being acoustically coupled to the front woofer, these two passive radiators deliver an even bass response around the speaker, making placement in the room easier.

To deliver the higher range, the company's engineers paired this Purifi driver with a house-made Kapton foil Air Motion Transformer that extends the overall sound performance. Frequency response is extended to 35Hz thanks to the long-stroke performance and efficiency of the Purifi woofer, with the Cue-100 responding all the way to 22kHz (-3dB). The low distortion of the combination can be largely explained by the ability of the Purifi midrange driver to crossover to the AMT at 2.3kHz.

In terms of design, the unique triangular shape of the standmount loudspeaker cabinet consists of three tapered and slightly rounded sides, CNC-machined from 35mm thick MDF. This design reduces resonance and internal standing waves, while giving the speaker a slender appearance when viewed from the listening angle. The base is machined from solid oak and increases the rigidity further, helping to attach the included tripod stand (also with solid oak legs). With four different cabinet combinations and five different optional fabric covers made by Gabriel from Denmark, the Cue-100 is customizable in 24 different color combinations.

When using the Cue-100 together with a Lyngdorf TDAI amplifier or MP multichannel processor, the company’s own RoomPerfect room correction technology acoustically adapts the Cue-100 to the room and optimizes the sound performance. RoomPerfect also allows an unusually high degree of freedom when placing the speakers in the room, meeting the highest demands in interior design as well as high-end-audio.

Gabriel from Denmark is one of the leading fabric specialists since 1851, creating fabrics for furniture, interiors, and acoustics. For the Cue-100 the company designed an all-around speaker cloth, available as an optional accessory in grey, black, petrol blue, dusty green, and red.
