Kardome and SoundHound AI Team Up to Transform In-Car Voice UI with Multizone Conversational AI

June 5 2025, 00:35
Kardome and SoundHound AI have announced a partnership aiming to accelerate implementation of multizone conversational AI inside cars based on Kardome's Spatial Hearing technology. The goal is to transform in-vehicle voice user interfaces, providing precise spatial awareness, and supporting up to six different people's voices in the vehicle, allowing SoundHound Chat AI Automotive to receive a clear audio stream and accurately understand the specific intent behind each command, regardless of its origin within the cabin.

OEMs know that today's in-car voice solutions are tuned almost exclusively for the first row. Cabin noise, crosstalk, and engine rumble undermine voice recognition accuracy, and scaling to all seats often means installing costly, complex mic arrays. The collaboration between Kardome and SoundHound AI intends to provide intuitive, hassle-free voice interactions for every passenger, with no additional hardware needed.

This means that every person, from the driver to the third-row passenger, can effortlessly interact with the vehicle, even in the noisiest of cabins. Such solutions meet consumers’ expectations for seamless, intuitive voice user interfaces (voice UI) that truly work for everyone in the cabin. And combining Kardome's Spatial Hearing and SoundHound AI, the joint solution enables a multi-zone voice interface that runs on existing hardware, eliminating the need for extra installations.

"By integrating Kardome's Spatial Hearing AI with SoundHound’s conversational AI technology, this solution hears like a human and responds like one. It recognizes who is speaking, filters out distractions, and delivers accurate, real-time responses — whether it's the driver or someone in the third row," Kardome says.

This software solution for multi-zone conversational AI interactions also results from the seamless integration of the two companies’ technologies. Kardome's technology employs advanced algorithms to analyze the acoustic environment within the vehicle, pinpointing the location of each speaker. Creating distinct "audio zones" isolates individual voices and effectively filters out background noise.

This precise spatial awareness enables SoundHound Chat AI Automotive to receive a clear, focused audio stream, allowing it to accurately understand the specific intent behind each command, regardless of its origin within the cabin. SoundHound's natural language processing interprets these isolated commands, delivering contextually relevant responses and ensuring a genuinely human-like conversation experience for all passengers.

OEMs can deploy this solution across vehicle classes without adding costs. Kardome's plug-and-play solution, combined with SoundHound's software SDKs and APIs, streamlines development timelines and ensures rapid integration.

Among existing players in spatial voice AI, Kardome stands out for its unique ability to handle highly complex acoustic environments and isolate individual voices, even with overlapping speakers and the noisiest backgrounds. This level of clarity is essential for providing the seamless multi-seat experience that SoundHound aims for in its platform.
