IOT747 Releases Low 20ms Latency Mode for IDC777 Module

October 22 2024, 00:35
IOT747 announced a new low latency feature for its IDC777 ultra-low power module. The IDC777 is a fully integrated dual mode LE Audio (LC3 Codec Auracast and Unicast) and Classic Bluetooth module, optimized for Bluetooth wireless audio designs. With this new 20ms low latency stereo mode, the IDC777 module supports even further flexibility for device customization, enabling applications for gaming and an improved experience for Auracast audio sharing and broadcasting.

IOT747, the Cambridge, UK-based supplier of wireless modules and solutions, is a leading provider of Bluetooth solutions, and its IDC range of modules and software are deployed in over one million devices including wireless speakers, headsets, automotive infotainment systems, industrial applications as well as general consumer electronics.

The IDC777 dual mode LE Audio and Classic audio Bluetooth module is based on a latest generation Bluetooth 5.3 Qualcomm audio chip, the reason why it is able to support both LE Audio (LC3) and aptX, aptX-HD, apt-X Lossless, and Snapdragon Sound in Bluetooth Classic. For a market in transition, the IDC777 offers best in class performance for product development in a very small package (11.8mm x 22.2mm) with an integrated antenna, pre-certified for all global regions.

The module offers a high level UART command interface (AudioAgent) that provides full control of all profiles such as UniCast and Auracast for LE Audio (LC3 codec) and HFP, HSP or HFP-AG (HandsFree Voice), A2DP Source and Sink and AVRCP (Music Streaming) for Classic. In addition the user can configure the module to transmit the audio received via a high quality integrated Analog Codec (100dBA SNR) or directly through a digital interface.

In addition, OEMs and developers can customize their IDC777-based designs to explore the very low power consumption (<4mAmp while streaming music, <0.1mAmp connected or pairing) and maximize the high performance integrated antenna for expanded range of up to 25m connecting with a standard smartphone. The latest customization option allows developers to manage latency according to application mode.

The IDC777 module unlocks new design opportunities for feature packed audio devices that support:
- 16-bit/44.1kHz CD Lossless Bluetooth audio quality
- 24-bit/96kHz high resolution Bluetooth audio quality
- 32kHz super wideband voice call quality for crystal clear calls
- Robust connectivity even in very busy RF environments
- Gaming mode, with 20ms low latency audio and voice back channel
- Dual-mode, low-power optimized integration of LE Audio for audio sharing and broadcasting
- Multipoint Bluetooth wireless connectivity, for virtually seamless and convenient transitions between source devices
- Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation, with natural leak-through capability

“We can deliver the ultimate wireless sound experience. For example, in addition to being the first module to deliver LE Audio Tx and Rx (Auracast and Unicast), we’ve added ultra-low latency stereo gaming mode with a back-channel (in-game chat) which opens a whole new range of applications for our customers” says Keith Wright, product manager at IOT747. “In this small fully certified IDC777 module, we have now all Classic and LE Audio combinations available to developer enabling them to develop any device in a matter of hours.”

Bluetooth Testing and Analysis
IOT747 has also been collaborating with RFcreations’ engineering team to create analysis and measurement products for Bluetooth. The IDC777 Bluetooth 5.4 Auracast module is now being used by RFcreations for basic application tests while the RFcreations suite of moreph SDR powered products can test and measure all aspect of the technology – including end-to-end audio latency and presentation delay.

“Combining the RFcreations RF PHY Test, Protocol Analysis, and audio latency products with the easy UART interface of the IDC777 module, we are providing a ‘must-have’ set of tools for any company working with LE Audio”, says Tracy Hopkins, VP Sales & Marketing, RFcreations.

Based in Cambridge, UK, RFcreations has developed the moreph software defined radio, which is at the core of all its products, enabling a new perspective for signal measurement, analysis, and generation. It ensures a testing platform for evolving specification features including LE Audio Latency, Channel Sounding and Auracast Broadcast URI and support for all Bluetooth protocols. The company’s audiopod audio measurement tool for Bluetooth LE Audio or Auracast is able to measure audio latency end-to-end, between-channels, relative to on-air packets and ‘presentation delay’.
