About Hans Polak
Hans Polak started to study medicine after graduation but was quickly dissatisfied with the lack of technical focus. He switched to electronic engineering and received his MSEE in 1979. During his EE study he worked for a leading Dutch defence manufacturer, designing a chip for real time radar signal processing. After graduation, Hans founded the first Dutch computer manufacturing company, Holborn. Hard- and software were designed, developed, and manufactured in-house years prior to the IBM PC. The Holborn 6140 is on display at Amsterdam University’s computer museum. When the IBM PC changed market dynamics, Hans started working with AutoCAD, becoming the biggest reseller/ distributor on the Dutch market. After having sold this company in the late 1980s, he has been active as investor, strategic advisor and business recovery specialist.
