Infineon Announces Next Generation CoolGaN Transistor Families

Infineon Technologies announced two new generations of high voltage (HV) and medium voltage (MV) CoolGaN devices which now enable Gallium Nitride (GaN) to be used in voltage classes from 40V to 700V in a broader array of applications that help drive digitalization and decarbonization. These two product families, now expanded with the portfolio that resulted from the GaN Systems acquisition, are manufactured on high performance 8-inch in-house foundry processes in Kulim (Malaysia) and Villach (Austria).

Cambridge GaN Devices Expands GaN-based 140-240W USB-PD Development

Cambridge GaN Devices (CGD), the British fabless semiconductor company, dedicated to develop energy-efficient GaN-based power devices that make greener electronics possible, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan to develop high performance GaN solutions for USB-Power Delivery (USB-PD) adaptors. The MoU also covers the sharing of domestic and international market information, joint visits to potential customers and promotion.

During Computex 2024, VIA Labs, one of the leading suppliers of USB4, SuperSpeed USB, USB Power Delivery Controllers, and now Display Controllers, announced the start of mass production and immediate availability for the VIA Labs VL605 USB-C to HDMI 2.1 Protocol Converter. The VL605 Protocol Converter achieved USB-IF certification for USB Power Delivery 3.1 with support for Extended Power Range (EPR) and HDMI 2.1 FRL certification and is now listed on the USB-IF Integrator's List under TID: 10462.

Knowles Corporation announced that Meizu, a consumer audio brand from China, has selected Knowles balanced armature (BA) drivers and SiSonic high-performance MEMS microphones to produce premium sound for its new LIVE AI Noise Cancelling Hi-Fi Earbuds. Now available in China and other countries in the APAC region, the Meizu LIVE AI earbuds combine the BAs with a coaxial driver, tuned to the Knowles Preferred Listening Curve. Meizu also offers a first-of-its-kind capability that uses artificial intelligence to identify user listening preferences.

B&C Speakers Takes Direct Control of Product Distribution in China

One the eve of Prolight+Sound Guangzhou, one of large pro audio trade shows in China, B&C Speakers announced a significant distribution change in its operations in China. The B&C Group, now incorporating B&C Speakers, Eighteen Sound, Ciare and Eminence, confirmed it will be taking direct control of all B&C Speaker product distribution in China, effective July 1,2024. The group recently reinforced its manufacturing and logistical operations in the region with the acquisition of Eminence.

Sonos announced the launch of its first-ever headphones. The Sonos Ace headphones are a very nice design, updated with all the technologies expected today. A Bluetooth 5.4 platform based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon Sound, with Active Noise Cancellation, advanced noise control for voice and calls, support for aptX lossless streaming, and spatial audio with Dolby Head Tracking. The TV audio swap is a core distinctive feature, allowing users to switch to headphones from Sonos soundbars.

CML Micro announced the availability of a complete Digital Radio Mondiale broadcast receiver, making DRM-capable radio more cost-effective and accessible worldwide. The UK-based RF chip company launched the DRM1000 module – a complete DRM implementation that will enable consumer radio manufacturers to connect communities with low-cost, low-power DRM radio designs. The module is a joint development, combining CML Micro's expertise in wireless IC design with Cambridge Consultants' digital signal processing know-how.

TDK Introduces Ultra-Thin Noise Suppression Permalloy Sheets

TDK Corporation extended its Flexield family of permalloy thin film sheets with the new IPM01 series, which features high-permeability and high loss in a lightweight and 0.006 mm ultra-thin design. This new material made possible due to TDK's proprietary manufacturing method, effectively shields lower-frequency band noise, which is becoming a growing issue in electric vehicles (EVs). Mass production of the product began May 2024.
