Headphone Market Continues to Celebrate Growth

Futuresource Consulting has just completed its latest round of research into the headphones market. According to its new report, worldwide shipments of headphones grew by 8.5% in 2014 to 309.5 million units. The majority of headphones sold are in-ear models (60%) and wireless headphones are the fastest growing category.

Sennheiser was honored with three awards at this year’s prestigious iF Design Awards competition. The new wireless headphone models RS 175, RS 185 and RS 195 as well as the audio specialist’s ear-canal headphones CX 1.00, CX 2.00, CX 3.00 and CX 5.00 received the coveted iF Label in the product design category. One of the outstanding submissions of the competition, Sennheiser’s Urbanite range received the iF gold award.

At the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show, held in Las Vegas between 6-9 January, Sennheiser launched innovative new headphones including a new generation of Sennheiser’s MOMENTUM line, now expanded with two new wireless versions. A Bluetooth version of the URBANITE XL also debuted at CES, together with a new RS range of digital wireless headphones for home audio and an all new line of sports headphones.

According to a new market research report “Wireless Audio Device Market By Products, Technology and Application - Global Forecast & Analysis 2013 – 2018” published by MarketsandMarkets, the total market is expected to generate revenues of $13.75 billion by 2018, growing at an estimated CAGR of 24.02% from 2013-2018.
