Artilux Offers USB4-Over-Fiber IC Solution for Longer Data Transfers

Artilux, a pioneer in GeSi (Germanium Silicon) photonic technology as well as CMOS-based SWIR sensing, imaging and optical communication technology, announced the launch of a mass-production-ready USB4 active-optical-cable IC solution. Compatible with Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, USB4/3 with data-transmission, audio-video display, and charging capabilities, the solution enables cheaper, longer data transfers.

True wireless stereo earbuds - and basically all hearables - depend upon a multitude of sensors, including optical sensing. Great TWS designs use optical sensors for basic switch-on/off operation, all the way to sophisticated digital health features. Artilux is a Taiwan-based source for these solutions and the company now announced a new ultra-sensitive CMOS-based sensing platform, compact and ultra-low power, ideal for these market needs, including skin detection in earbuds.

Nanusens, the innovative research venture working on nano-sensors built inside CMOS devices, recently received significant funding that will enable it to expand its operations and hire new staff. Nanusens is also a finalist for the Design Team of the Year in the prestigious Elektra Awards 2020. The company, headquartered in the United Kingdom, with R&D centers in Barcelona, Spain and Shenzen, China, has designed a novel way to enable the higher frequency bands needed by 5G mobile phones, something that presents a challenge with current technology.

At the International Supercomputing Conference 2014 in Leipzig, Germany, Intel confirmed its next-generation Intel Xeon Phi Processor with integrated Intel Omni Scale Fabric to be available in the second half of 2015. The new microarchitecture will deliver up to 3 times the performance of previous generation computers.
