STMicroelectronics Updates NanoEdge AI Studio to Support On-Device Learning and Inferencing in Recently Announced AI-Native MEMS Sensors

STMicroelectronics has expanded its NanoEdge AI Studio machine-learning design software with support for smart sensors that contain ST’s embedded Intelligent Sensor Processing Unit (ISPU). The new release extends the market-unique tool’s capability to enable on-device learning of AI models for anomaly detection inside intelligent sensors.

STMicroelectronics has introduced new inertial sensors that contain the intelligent sensor processing unit (ISPU) to power applications interacting with trained devices, allowing intelligence moving from “on” the edge to “in” the edge. The sensor's on-chip signal processing core, programmable with ST’s NanoEdge AI Studio, is ideal for machine-learning applications.

Global semiconductor powerhouse STMicroelectronics announced the availability of Version 3 of NanoEdge AI Studio, the first major upgrade of this software tool for machine-learning applications that ST acquired with Cartesiam earlier this year. The updates introduce new algorithms, better support for sensor data acquisition and management using an ST development board, and an enhanced user interface to make machine-learning implementation easier for embedded developers with no data-science skills.

STMicroelectronics announced a transaction with Cartesiam to acquire its assets (including its IP portfolio) and to transfer and integrate its employees. Cartesiam, based in Toulon (France), is a software company founded in 2016, which specializes in artificial intelligence (AI) development tools enabling machine-learning and inferencing on Arm-based microcontrollers, which today power billions of devices.
