AES Publishes AES75-2023 AES Standard for Acoustics Update

The Audio Engineering Society Standards Committee has published an updated to the recently approved standard, AES75-2023: "AES standard for acoustics – Measuring loudspeaker maximum linear sound levels using noise." The standard, originally announced and adopted in March 2022, addresses the need for a practical and repeatable procedure for quantifying this key aspect of loudspeaker performance. The update reflects industry support from audio manufacturers, audio test and measurement manufacturers, and service providers.

Eclipse Audio has announced a major update of its FIR Designer M software tool for creating custom loudspeaker processing (IIR+FIR) filters and complete multichannel presets. Version 4 adds auditionDSP, a dynamic new digital signal processor and audio player that enables users to listen to their custom processing during the development process, rather than relying solely on visual plots. auditionDSP also allows different filtering options to be audibly compared by running processing for up to three loudspeaker presets simultaneously, in real-time, with live switching between presets.

Audio Engineering Society Requests Expressions of Interest in AES75 Standard

The Audio Engineering Society announced the adoption and publication of the AES75 standard for acoustics - "Measuring loudspeaker maximum linear sound levels using noise - in March of 2022. The AES SC-04-03-A task group is currently in the process of publicizing the 2022 AES75 standard and has issued an industry appeal of support from audio manufacturers, audio test and measurement solutions manufacturers, and audio measurement services providers.

More than three years past since M-Noise was proposed as a new test signal for standardized measurement of a loudspeaker system’s maximum linear output, the Audio Engineering Society has announced the adoption and publication of AES75-2022, “AES standard for acoustics - Measuring loudspeaker maximum linear sound levels using noise.” The new standard addresses the need for a practical and cohesive procedure for the prediction of loudspeaker performance.
