Genelec Introduces Aural ID Plug-in for Personalized Headphone Monitoring

Multiple years in development, Genelec has now made its Aural ID software technology available in an easy-to-use plug-in format that any audio content creator and audio engineers will be able to load in their favorite DAW software. The Aural ID plug-in provides a more flexible purchasing model and integrates smoothly into every audio professional's workflow, delivering a more truthful, reliable and completely personalized headphone listening experience, for stereo to immersive audio content.

Genelec, a global reference in active monitors for studio applications, announced what the Finish company describes as "a significant first step in improving the trustworthiness of headphone listening," through the introduction of its new Aural ID software. The technology is the result of a development effort initiated in 2017, in joint-venture between Finnish HRTF modeling specialists IDA Audio and headphone calibration experts Hefio Oy to develop personal optimization for headphones.

Following the recent joint-venture announcement between Finnish HRTF modeling specialists IDA Audio and Genelec, another company from Finland now joins the effort to provide personal calibration on headphones. Finnish startup Hefio Oy, announced a strategic partnership with Genelec and IDA Audio to develop personal optimization for headphones, contributing with its automatic individualized calibration solution.

Audio monitoring specialist, Genelec, and IDA Audio, a pioneer in head-related transfer function (HRTF) modeling technology, are joining forces to create a truly accurate immersive audio experience for professional headphone users. The jointly-developed technology scans the user’s ears, upper body and head to create a Cloud-based customized personal audio profile, which can then be loaded into the user’s DAW via a choice of third-party plug-ins.
