New STMicroelectronics Smart Inertial Modules Bring AI To Remote Sensors

STMicroelectronics has introduced new inertial sensors that contain the intelligent sensor processing unit (ISPU) to power applications interacting with trained devices, allowing intelligence moving from “on” the edge to “in” the edge. The sensor's on-chip signal processing core, programmable with ST’s NanoEdge AI Studio, is ideal for machine-learning applications.

DSP Concepts, the audio platform powering more than 50M devices for many of the world’s best consumer and automotive brands, announced a partnership with CloudNav to bring its sensor fusion technology to Audio Weaver. This means that developers can seamlessly deploy CloudNav’s Performance Fusion technology through Audio Weaver’s drag-and-drop graphical interface to integrate and automatically calibrate inertial sensors for optimal product performance.

In the wake of the acquisition of the Hillcrest Laboratories (Hillcrest Labs) business from InterDigital in mid-2019, CEVA now introduced the Hillcrest Labs MotionEngine Hear, a sensor and processor agnostic embedded software solution for hearable devices. The new solution allows SoC vendors, OEMs and ODMs to take advantage of a configurable sensor fusion platform to add intuitive user interface, gesture control, activity tracking and spatial audio capabilities to hearable devices.

Demand for True Wireless Stereo (TWS) products reflect the growing demand for multi-function, health care, and connected wearable solutions, all requiring smaller and longer battery life devices. Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) has recently introduced the AKM AK4336ECB ultra low power audio codec, a 4-channel ADC and one channel DAC that supports active noise cancelling designs, complementing its complete portfolio of audio systems and sensors for TWS development.
