OmniBuds Hearables Project by Nokia Bell Labs Backed by Cambridge Future Tech

OmniBuds are the world's first hearables designed to continuously monitor all 5 vital signs, complemented by state-of-the-art augmented hearing capabilities. Conceived by Nokia Bell Labs in Cambridge, UK, the OmniBuds project is now receiving further support from venture builder Cambridge Future Tech. The company entered into a relationship with Nokia Bell Labs and Nokia Ventures & Partnerships to establish OmniBuds Ltd for the commercialization of the OmniBuds platform, as a fully featured ear-worn AI/ML computing platform.

Scottish sensor technology Novosound has secured a patent for its ultrasonic instrumentation system, with the company recently launching its related Slanj platform targeted at the medical and wearable device sectors worldwide. The new ultrasound imaging patent underpins Novosound's first-mover advantage to initiate efforts in consumer health, including blood pressure monitoring for smartwatches.

ams showcased its new Earbud Innovation Demo Kit at CES 2020. The ready-to-use reference design shows how loose-fit true wireless earbuds can achieve selective noise cancellation for augmented hearing, while supporting features such as proximity sensing for automatic power saving and usability enhancements. Based on the new ams AS3460 Digital Augmented Hearing companion chip, the solution currently provides the world’s best performing noise cancellation for loose- and closed-fit earbuds.
