Valens Provides Multi-Gigabit Connectivity Solution for Mercedes-Benz S-Class Premium Infotainment System

Valens, the semiconductor company that is pushing the boundaries of connectivity, announced that its VA6000 chipsets are integrated in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, launched in September 2020. This marks the first multi-gigabit symmetric link in the world to be deployed in mass production, and the only multi-gigabit technology over unshielded wiring for in-vehicle connectivity.

As connected vehicles increasingly rely on Ethernet for network connectivity, smart technology is helping developers to streamline infotainment system development and quickly adapt to manufacturers’ evolving requirements. Microchip Technology announced the first hardware-based audio endpoint solution for AVB – the LAN9360, a single chip Ethernet controller with embedded protocols. The new LAN9360 AVB audio endpoint helps to reduce development time, eliminating the need for stack integration and additional software and firmware development.

Tektronix announced the launch of its TekExpress Multi-Gigabit Automotive Ethernet Compliance Test Solution as the first-in-market solution to meet the requirements of complex automotive designs. As newer automotive technologies such as autonomous driving, 5G and connected car solutions develop, the paths carrying the vast amount of data necessary to support those technologies must be tested to ensure reliable transfers between a vehicle’s electronic sub-systems.

The University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL), an independent provider of broad-based testing and standards conformance services for the networking industry, announced it will have a key active role in the advancement of the Automotive Audio Bus (A2B) technology developed by Analog Devices. The UNH-IOL will serve as the industry’s first laboratory for A2B conformance testing, which is an essential element of the broader A2B ecosystem.

During Electronica 2018, Microchip announced what the company claims to be the industry’s most efficient automotive infotainment networking solution that supports all data types, including audio, video, control and Ethernet, over a single cable. Intelligent Network Interface Controller networking (INICnet) technology is a synchronous, scalable solution that significantly simplifies building audio and infotainment systems. INICnet coexists with automotive Ethernet, efficiently linking IP-based communication across vehicle domains, and supports digital audio formats with multiple sources and sink.
