Zoom Announces H3-VR Handy Audio Recorder with Built-In Ambisonics Mic Array

Zoom is turning heads with the announcement of its latest handy recorder, the Zoom H3-VR, which not only records in Ambisonics format, but also offers binaural stereo, standard stereo, 5.1 surround support, and live streaming. What’s more, the recorder is self-contained and provides a fast and easy way to record 360-audio and monitor in real time. Whether used for film, music, or gaming production, the new VR recorder from Zoom goes beyond virtual reality (VR) applications.

Sennheiser announced that the TEAC Corporation and its Tascam brand of professional video and broadcast equipment is joining the “AMBEO for VR” partnership program. Created to ensure seamless production workflows and interoperability for VR, AR and other 3D and spatial audio content creators, this Sennheiser program includes collaborations with acclaimed manufacturers of field recorders, VR live cameras, live streaming software, mixing plug-ins and VR platforms.

Lectrosonics introduced two new transmitters as the latest generation in the award-winning Digital Hybrid Wireless SM Series product line: the “wide band” SMWB (single AA battery) and SMDWB (dual AA battery). The two new wireless audio transmitters have a similar look and feel to previous SM Series units, but with several innovative new features, including the ability to either act as a transmitter or as a body-worn recorder, as well as wideband tuning.

Austrian company Speech Processing Solutions, a Philips subsidiary, has announced a new audio recorder, which expands the company's tradition with voice recording also as a recording device for music enthusiasts. The Philips VoiceTracer audio recorder DVT7500 has been specially developed for high quality recordings, combining three high-quality microphones, an XLR and line-in connector, as well as 16GB of internal storage space. And of course, it still supports the company's famous voice to text applications.
