Tuesday, August 13 was scheduled as Pixel day, when Google promoted its ninth "Made by Google" event to unveil an extensive range of hardware devices, including new Pixel 9 phones, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2. The smartphones are what one would expect at this time, a best of all the Android smartphones available until now. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are Google's best attempt in the category with better ANC and battery life.

Phonak, a Sonova brand, launched a new family of hearing aids based on its latest Infinio platform. Part of the Infinio family with several Bluetooth-enabled models that still don't support LE Audio, is the Audéo Sphere Infinio, said to be the world's first hearing aid with a dedicated real-time AI chip for speech-from-noise separation. Powered by a new Phonak ERA processor, and a dedicated NPU, the new Audéo Sphere Infinio hearing-aids are able to enhance speech understanding from any direction.

Realtek Semiconductor and Alango Technologies, have announced a collaboration to deliver a joint solution aimed at facilitating In-Car Communication (ICC) between the driver and passengers to improve safety, convenience, and overall satisfaction during travel. According to Alango, the solution uses its ICC software package ported and optimized for the Realtek ALC5575 audio processor. The Alango ICC technology suite running on ALC5575 was successfully demonstrated by Realtek to Computex visitors in June 2024.

LG Acquires Dutch Startup Athom to Accelerate its AI-Enabled Smart-Home Ecosystem

The story was out for a few days, but now it's officially confirmed that LG Electronics recently acquired an 80 percent stake in Athom, the Dutch smart home company based in Enschede, Netherlands. Known for its Homey smart home platform, the startup was struggling and lacked the scale that LG will provide. The agreement includes plans for LG to acquire the remaining 20 percent within the next three years. LG will maintain Athom as a separate operation, while expanding its own open smart home ecosystems globally.
