AES Show 2024 NY: Personal Highlights

Notes from the AES Convention in New York. After three days of the annual flagship event of the Audio Engineering Society, there was an evening haze settling along the city skyline, with starlight behind the Javits Center and the Hudson River. Yet the last night in Manhattan turned into a clear one. Registrations were reportedly up this year for the AES Show, with the opening ceremony on Day 1 at full capacity, occupying all 300 theater seats, and upwards of 6,000 visitors to the convention during the three days.

On the first day of the 2024 AES Show in New York, Austrian Audio launched the Hi-X20 – the latest entry in the brand’s family of professional, closed-back headphones. Designed to offer detailed, high-precision sound in a compact, affordable package built for audio professionals, content creators, and discerning music lovers alike, the Hi-X20 headphones are a workhorse for recording, mixing, and recreational listening. Available for MSRP $149 these are another great option for day-to-day use.

Focal has released a new closed-back professional headphone model. The new Lensys Professional headphones are designed specifically for professional studio applications, and with a US-suggested retail price of $699 USD they need to offer convincing arguments. The French company has been developing a range of unique innovations for its high end audio headphones, which are now applied in this latest professionals model.

Merging Technologies announced that Pyramix 15 will be unveiled at the upcoming AES Show in New York (October 8-10, 2024). According to the Swiss company that is now part of Neumann/Sennheiser, this latest version of Pyramix comes with a modern redesign and an enhanced user experience, making it easier to use. Among the new features Pyramix 15 introduces a new fully customizable mixer, with upgraded channel strip and bus tools, seamless integration with ARA2 plugins and reengineered Merging VS3 plugins.

The Audio Engineering Society has opened registration for the AES Show 2024 NY, the largest event for audio professionals promoted by the organization. This year the International convention takes place Tuesday, October 8, to Thursday, October 10, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. Registration is also open for the concurrent 2024 NAB Show New York, which the National Association of Broadcasters promotes from October 9-10 in the same location.
