Microchip Releases First IEEE 802.3bt PoE to USB Type-C Power and Data Adaptor

Microchip announced a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) to USB-C adaptor with the highest power capability that converts both power and data while offering up to 60W USB output power via an Ethernet cable supported by PoE infrastructure. This solution simplifies installation by reducing dependency on AC infrastructure, and enables extending the installation reach of USB Type-C devices while supporting a variety of input PoE standards up to 90W and output power up to 60W.

Microchip announced a new reference design using its MCP1012 high voltage auxiliary AC-DC controller, demonstrating the ability to remove the independent bias power supply in many applications. The MCP1012 offline auxiliary device enables the system to transfer control of the power and duty cycle to a secondary MCU. The reference design includes a patented isolation technique called Inde-Flux transformer technology being licensed to Würth Elektronik eiSos.

Implementing multi-channel system control or signal outputs using Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs) in today’s portable and handheld consumer, communications, and medical systems has been difficult to do without significant processor overhead for device configuration during power-up. Microchip Technology announced a solution to this problem with its MCP47/48FxBx8 family of octal 12-bit DACs, the first of their kind to include nonvolatile memory and an integrated Voltage Reference (Vref) source so they can be pre-configured for safe and efficient power-up without relying on the system processor.
