Predictive Acoustics and Acoustical Modeling Software: Duran Audio DDA Software

From March to August 2014, in its Sound Control column dedicated to acoustics, Richard Honeycutt reviewed and wrote a series of articles on the evolution of predictive acoustics and acoustical modeling software, including a review of some of the available tools. This sixth and final article in the series discusses Duran Audio’s Digital Directivity Analysis (DDA) software. This article was originally published in audioXpress, August 2014.

In 2010, JBL Professional introduced its CBT series of vertical columns, trying to address the successful concept with a passive and more affordable approach. In 2013, Harman acquired the world market leader in vertical array loudspeakers, the Dutch company Duran Audio, and gained access to its sophisticated Digital Directivity Synthesis technology and Axys Intellivox range of products. At InfoComm 2016, JBL now introduced its flagship JBL CBT1000 column array, together with the JBL Intellivox HP-DS170 loudspeaker.

Harman’s booth at Prolight+Sound 2016 attempted to cram all new products introduced at NAMM 2016 in a relatively small space. Still, Harman introduced an additional series of new products in Frankfurt, including the surprising EON ONE all-in-one PA system. Adopting a familiar slim column array over sub design, the EON ONE combines a six-channel mixer and Bluetooth audio.

Building on its industry-leading line of Intellivox loudspeakers - acquired from Dutch company Duran Audio in 2013 - Harman’s JBL Professional is introducing the new Intellivox 380 Series. The new DC380, DS380 and DSX380 vertical array columns offer complex room coverage capabilities, and pinpoint steerability, making them ideal for applications where intelligibility and accuracy are critical.
