Solid State Logic Next Generation Analog Studio Console Introduced at AES 2019

Solid State Logic (SSL) decided it was time to revisit the company’s analog origins with a new studio classic console. Visitors to the AES NY 2019 convention had the chance to witness the first preview of the Origin analog console, the latest in a long heritage of SSL studio mixing consoles. Origin has a traditional analog studio workflow at its heart whilst providing the perfect partner for a modern DAW driven ‘hybrid’ production studio.

Solid State Logic surprised us with the launch of SiX, a compact, desktop-friendly audio mixer that will appeal to a broad market of project studios and post-production suites. Even in its compact form, SiX is a classic SSL design, with a carefully considered feature set that the Oxford-based company says is "driven by an obsessive desire for total flexibility, to encompass every creative eventuality," and carries "the DNA of 40 years of true expertise in creative studio workflow."

DiGiCo confirmed the acquisition of German company KLANG:technologies as a key new addition to the Audiotonix family that already includes leading audio brands Allen & Heath, Calrec, DiGiGrid, Solid State Logic and DiGiCo. The deal, which was concluded in early December 2018, brings a key new addition to the Audiotonix group of companies, comprising four of the leading brands in studio, live sound and broadcast audio mixing consoles, and adding a completely new category, with the addition of a pioneering company in the field of personal monitoring and immersive 3D audio solutions.

Solid State Logic proudly announced Fusion, an all-analog 2U outboard processor created for the modern hybrid studio, which also signals a new generation of tools from the famous British brand. "Fusion introduces five completely new analog coloration tools designed to bring the perfect combination of added tonal character, weight and space to your mix bus or stereo stems, with the detail, warmth and finesse that only real analogue circuits can provide."

Audio mixing consoles, devices that blend together multiple sound sources, continue to experience a customer shift towards low-end products, cannibalizing the mid-range market. That’s one of the key takeaways from a new report released by Futuresource Consulting’s pro audio team. On the positive side, the overall segment continues to grow, thanks to the strong momentum experienced by professional audio digital mixing consoles in touring and rental, broadcast, and installed commercial applications.

Audiotonix announced the acquisition of Solid State Logic (SSL) as part of its expanding Group that already includes leading British audio brands DiGiCo, DiGiGrid, Calrec and Allen & Heath. The deal, which was concluded December 20, 2017, brings together the top flight of the world’s mixing consoles companies. Peter Gabriel, the majority shareholder in Solid State Logic, becomes an investor in Audiotonix as part of the transaction.

As anticipated at the InfoComm 2016 show, Allen & Heath has introduced several key additions to its flagship dLive digital mixing system, with the launch of the IP6 and IP8 fully-configurable and networkable remote controllers, and the Waves V3 and gigaACE audio networking cards. With a consistent flow of new product announcements, new options and upgrades, the British professional audio company is steadily gaining market share on a global level.

During the 2015 Prolight+Sound show in Frankfurt, DiGiCo revealed its new S21 compact digital mixer. The official presentation at the show was not complemented with the usual press release and full specifications were not disclosed. Only now, after the show closed, the company revealed more details.
