A year past since it introduced its second-generation Glass Sound Speaker, Sony Electronics announced the LSPX-S3, the third iteration of a wireless glass sound speaker that intends to create a warm and "deeply calming ambience" in any space. The more advanced LSPX-S3 adds an organic glass tweeter and candlelight mode. in a more affordable Bluetooth speaker with 360-degree sound, that supports also LDAC for high quality sound transmission and is charged via USB-C.
The new Sony LSPX-S3 Glass Sound Speaker shows that Sony is committed to a concept that it believes will be welcome in every home, combining a portable design with a soft light that flickers like a candle. The portable design will offer users up to eight hours of battery life, allowing to enjoy listing to music in the garden or under the porch, or use it to create a romantic mood during a dinner at home.
"The LSPX-S3 is a sleek and streamlined speaker that seamlessly blends with any environment," says Daisuke Kawaguchi, Vice President of Home Entertainment & Sound, Sony Electronics. "With crystal clear sound and a unique flickering candlelight mode, this speaker is designed to create an inviting atmosphere that delivers incredible audio quality."
According also to Sony, the updated LSPX-S3 features what they call Advanced Vertical Drive Technology, which uses three actuators that discreetly attach to the end of the organic glass, vibrating the entire glass tweeter to spread sound in every direction. No matter the music genre, the speaker offers clear and powerful high tones from the organic glass tweeter, while also delivering widespread sound with uniform volume dispersion.
Thanks to a built-in 46mm speaker unit for the midbass, reinforced with a passive radiator enhancement for clear low-end notes and a "Bass Boost mode" for punchier sound, the LSPX-S3 offers enough audio quality to complement any music taste. The LSPX-S3 is also an updated Bluetooth 5 design that can be paired in left/right mode for stereo reproduction and support high-resolution audio streaming from an LDAC Bluetooth source device. LDAC supports several transmission rates according to the connected devices and allows transmitting at the maximum transfer rate of 990 kbps (approximately three times more data than conventional Bluetooth SBC audio).
The base of the LSPX-S3 is in a mineral silver color with a satin finish that features a fabric bottom. The subtle design, smooth surface and high-quality metal finish ensures the speaker fits effortlessly into any home. "Whether it's used as a tranquil sleep timer for the bedroom, or to illuminate the living room throughout the day, the stylish and sophisticated design blends into every environment seamlessly," Sony describes.
As a light source, the LSPX-S3 has 32 brightness levels that can be adjusted by sliding the key on the touch sensor. And users can enjoy it in candlelight mode, which provides subtle illumination that flickers like a candle, bright mode for general use or delicate mode for winding down at night. Users can even sync the light to gently pulse in time with music. Downloading the Sony Music Center app allows to remotely set a sleep timer before heading to bed.
The speaker was also designed with the environment in mind and plastic comprises less than 5% of the packaging material. The LSPX-S3 has a suggested retail price of $349.99 and will be available to order in August 2021.
